About the Role
As an Accountant / Senior Bookkeeper, you are committed to being your best self and working with integrity as you manage the financial heartbeat of our café operations. Our ideal candidate has a strong background in accounting or bookkeeping, a keen eye for detail, and a desire to grow within a dynamic, hospitality-focused organization. This is a remote role, offering flexibility while staying closely connected to our leadership team.
What You Will Do
The Accountant / Senior Bookkeeper at Caffè Cittadella is first and foremost a steward of our financial health. It is all about maintaining accurate records, providing clear financial insights, and ensuring our café operations run smoothly from a financial perspective. You will be the financial backbone of the business, working behind the scenes to keep everything balanced and transparent.
As an Accountant / Senior Bookkeeper, you will:
- Manage full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple café locations using QuickBooks Online
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and POS system transactions daily and monthly
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, including profit and loss, balance sheets, and cash flow reports
- Process accounts payable and receivable, including vendor payments, invoicing, and collections
- Prepare and file GST/PST returns and ensure compliance with tax regulations
- Assist with payroll processing, including wage calculations, deductions, and remittances
- Monitor inventory costs and cost of goods sold (COGS) to support menu pricing and profitability
- Support budget preparation and variance analysis for café operations
- Provide financial reporting and insights to the management team for strategic decision-making
- Maintain organized digital records and ensure all financial documentation is audit-ready
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements
- Collaborate with external accountants during year-end and tax filing periods
What We Need from You
- A degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Several years of progressive experience in accounting or bookkeeping, preferably in the hospitality, retail, or food and beverage industry
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and advanced Excel skills
- Strong understanding of Canadian tax regulations (GST/PST, payroll, and corporate tax)
- Experience with POS systems and inventory management is an asset
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment
- Reliable high-speed internet connection and a quiet home office
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Legal authorization to work in Canada
