Intent of the process
Term position of 4 months.

A qualifying list will be established, and may be used to fill similar positions of various tenures, language requirements or work locations.

Your résumé.

A covering letter in 1,200 words (maximum) "in which applicants must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter how they meet the Education and Experience criteria listed in the Qualifications (see below). Applicants must list both of these factors in their cover letter, and then write one or two paragraphs for each demonstrating how they meet these factors by providing concrete examples. Please note that it is not sufficient to only state that these factors are met or to provide a listing of current or past responsibilities. Resumes will be used as a secondary source to validate the experience described in the cover letter. Failure to clearly demonstrate in your cover letter how you meet the Education and Experience factors found in the State of Qualifications (see below), may result in the rejection of your application. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)
Successful completion of Grade 10 or an equivalent to provincial standards.

Degree equivalency

Experience in general construction of various small structures such as board walks, platforms, fences, etc;

Experience in the maintenance of turf, grounds, trails and other related labour duties;

Experience in general and semi-skilled maintenance and repair of facilities, structures, equipment and utilities.

Knowledge of labour work procedures for general construction and maintenance operations;

Knowledge of safe working habits and regulations related to the Canada Labour Code;

Knowledge of operation and maintenance of various light motorized tools, hand tools, construction equipment and ATVs.

Ability to read and understand written instructions;

Ability to carry out labour duties as directed;

Ability to operate light motorized equipment;

Ability to communicate orally and in writing to a broad range of groups and individuals;

Ability to inspect and report on the condition of facilities and structures.

St. John’s Ambulance Standard First Aid Certificate (or equivalent) and CPR certificate.

Willingness to work in all weather conditions normally encountered from April through October in the central inland portion of Nova Scotia.

Required to physically perform strenuous work and walk extended distances while carrying a load up to 40 kg.

Required to wear a Parks Canada uniform as per the uniform policy.

Required to wear appropriate protective clothing.

Willingness to work overtime, holidays, weekends, after hours.

Possession of a valid class 5 driver’s license.
