POSITION SUMMARY:
Looking to stretch your journalism career wings in a role that offers flexibility, independence and an incredible team? Have we got the job for you!
We are a fun and energetic bunch who produce a pile of agriculture-focused digital and print publications, plus multiple forms of client writing and design work. We’re a pitch-in-and-help-each-other-out kind of team that knows how to work super hard but also stays committed to work-life balance. We punch bigger than our weight class in audience reach: though we’re a fairly small team, we’re read by thousands of readers in multiple countries. We’re proud of the important job we do in helping tell agriculture’s story!
You are an amazing writer who ‘gets’ farming: maybe you grew up on a farm; you for sure know what end of a shovel is supposed to hit dirt. You aren’t necessarily an agricultural production expert (bonus points if you are!), but you understand farmers’ priorities and you are unfailingly curious and willing to learn. You want a job where you can use your writing chops in an independent and self-driven, but also team-oriented and super supportive environment. In this job, the sky is the limit: if you’re keen and capable (now or as a growth opportunity), we’d love to help you take on a strong editorial leadership role with one or more of our publications.
The Job:
Working with our editorial team, you’ll “execute the editorial direction and provide the project management required to build our publications reputation as the leading source of industry-specific information”. That means you’ll keep your ear to the ground for what’s notable in the industry, then build uber-engaging written and video content for distribution through our social media, website, e-newsletter and print magazine channels. Again – loads of room for you to help drive this ship. Love building a specific type of content, or have amazing ideas for new opportunities? Let’s make it happen!
The Fine Print:
- Produce lots of content writing using an unbiased, engaging journalistic voice
- Grow understanding of the key issues that are relevant in a specific sector of the ag industry
- Help or oversee content planning and editorial calendars
- Be ON TIME EVERY TIME! Our deadlines are pretty darn critical
- Interview sources on a broad range of industry issues (again, you don’t have to be an expert, but you do have to be genuinely curious and interested)
- Host podcasts, webinars, video interviews
- Help grow our social media presence
- Represent us at very occasional industry events, conferences and tradeshows as needed (a couple times per year)
- Build top-notch working relationships with our team and the industry
- Know and reliably use Canadian Press Style Guides; and
- Be willing to jump in on whatever else our team is tackling when needed.
CORE VALUE:
At Seed World Group, we live and work with integrity for our clients, our team, our community and ourselves.
CONTACT:
Interested applicants should forward, via email to Maya Baerg ([email protected]), their resume, writing samples and a letter about themselves, their writing experience and their connection to agriculture. Please, please, please save yourself and us time: if you aren’t at all familiar with agriculture, this isn’t the job for you. We don’t need an expert, but we definitely need someone who understands farmers’ priorities.
THANKS to all applicants! We’ll only be able to respond to candidates selected for an interview.
