This position is part of the IS Operations support team providing high quality services and technical support to NWR physical servers, virtual infrastructure, remote access infrastructure, storage, backups and datacenter. You will be accountable for maintaining all NWR systems to a high availability standard by ensuring the regular maintenance, patch updates, redundancy tests and monitoring processes are performed in a timely and professional manner. You will also be part of an on-call rotation schedule for afterhours infrastructure support.

The incumbent will work closely with the Client Services and Application support groups to address a variety of cases. They will also participate in IS projects and will ensure a smooth transition of project deliverables from the project to IS operations and Service Desk for ongoing sustainment. NWR is using the ITIL framework therefor the incumbent will be required to have an understanding (or learn) of the framework and follow its processes (Incident, Problem, Request and Change management).

Responsibilities:
Learn the NWR IS environment; acquire skills and apply those skills.
Provide technical support for all server infrastructure components (hardware, software, OS, firmware, network);
Proactively monitor, address and track to resolution any incidents logged or escalated to the IS operation queue in the NWR’s service desk ticketing system (Service Now);
Perform incident root cause analysis and identify work around or fix;
Follow the NWR’s ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Request and Change management);
Recommend solutions that will enhance Information Systems or business processes as part of the NWR’s continuous improvement strategy;
Installation of servers and related application server software, upgrades, security or functional patches as well as moves and configuration changes;
Provide timely escalation of incident to 3rd party vendor support organizations where applicable;
Maintain and update physical and virtual server’s asset inventory;
Create and maintain IS Operation Run Books (technical documentation/instructions for any new application installation process, start-up and shut down procedures, etc.);
Ensure consistent time tracking in NWR’s timesheet system;

Requirements:

Post-secondary degree or technical diploma;
Enjoys working with a team as well as having the ability to work as an individual contributor;
Good verbal and written skills; be able to execute Instructions in a timely manner.
The ability to lift/carry/move weights up to 50lbs to assist with the installation and transportation of infrastructure equipment is required;
Available for off-hours work during key deliverable timeframes (move, user migration); provide coverage for Client Service queue overages;
Be willing to learn and provide support for our network infrastructure;
Must have a valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s license or equivalent.
