Job Overview
Reporting to the Head of Scientific Development the Quality Control Technician position is responsible for conducting routine quality control testing on Beneficial organisms, conducting local and coordinating national quick checks, investigating quality complaints and identifying opportunities for improvement, submission of field samples to local and global laboratories and routine internal auditing and TQM SOP maintenance. You will follow all protocols/process flows provided and demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and confidentiality in all qc-related activities, both in laboratory, production and field settings. This position is subject to change at the direction of Koppert Canada Limited.
Summary of Functions
Quality Control Assessments
- Perform extensive Quality Control testing to identify issues and provide feedback
- Effectively communicate deviations to Manager in a timely manner
- Generate monthly reports with results and analysis to Manager
Quick Checks
- Perform weekly Quick Checks on arrival/unpacking of all Leamington area beneficial shipments
- Communicate with Quick Checkers in all locations across Canada regarding Quick Check results
- Effectively communicate deviations from all locations to Manager in a timely manner
- Analyze cross-country Quick Check results routinely and provide recommendations for improvement to suppliers at Managers direction
Complaints Investigation
- Acting as a liaison between Koppert Canada and Koppert producers for product inquiries and quality complaints/observations
- Contributing observations/support to Koppert producers for changes or adjustments to handling of micros, macros and pollination products, as needed and when necessary
- Providing requested support for ongoing and new initiatives via Koppert subsidiaries/Koppert B.V. as communicated by Head of Scientific Development & Quality Assurance
Sample Submissions
- Maintenance and upkeep of Sample Submission processes for TQM use and Consultant use (making changes and revisions when necessary)
- Receiving and documenting sample submission intake for insect, leaf, soil and new sample requests
- Preparing samples for logistics and communicating with laboratories for results and results dissemination to Consultants
Internal Audits
- Performing routine audits within Production using auditing processes and schedules
- Reporting deviations to Manager of audited process
- Planning and execution of follow-ups to complete corrective actions via CAPA
- Review, creation and amendments to active SOP’s, as needed
Core Competencies
General Competencies and Qualifications
Successful candidates in the Quality Control Technician position must demonstrate and obtain:
- Graduate of a Post-Secondary Institution in sciences related studies is required
- Entomological and/or Horticultural/Agricultural focus is an asset.
- Minimum two years work experience in relatable field.
- Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and written.
- Ability to travel by vehicle or commercial transportation to other offices, meeting locations, customer farms or attend training as directed. A valid Driver’s License is required.
- Demonstrated attention to detail is essential
Technology Competencies
Quality Control Technicians must be able to adapt on the fly using the technology provided to them. This includes in and out-of-office interactions. Successful candidates must have:
- Intermediate/Advance knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.)
- Intermediate/Advanced knowledge and operation of laboratory equipment, and quality management system software (AlisQI, etc.) and corresponding data analysis is an asset.
- Experience operating and maintaining laboratory equipment and instruments.

Work Environment:
What you can expect
- This position involves working part of the time in an office, laboratory and occasional work remotely and in the field/at greenhouse facilities.
- This position occasionally requires to be physically able to endure outdoor or indoor climates including hot or cold extremes. Regular exposure to pollinators (bumblebees).
