The purpose of the Bather position is to provide support to the groomer by performing baths and prepping each dog or cat for their grooming appointment. In addition, the employee will assure the constant cleanliness of cages and grooming related areas within the space.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Administer baths (ordinary, flea, medicated, skunked).
· Ensure safe handling of each pet (never leave pets unattended, ensure that the noose is properly secure to the pets, ask for instruction or help from the groomers whenever necessary).
· Perform required preparation procedures for all grooming clients where applicable, such as nail trims, ear cleanings, teeth cleaning, anal gland expressions and other tasks requested by the groomer.
· Recognize and record any unusual condition or abnormal behaviour of any clients; brings these concerns to the attending groomer. For example warts, redness in ears etc.
· Provide each client with water prior to and after bathing and/or grooming appointments.
· Do a quick let out so dogs can relieve themselves if necessary (ask groomers for instructions).
· Assists groomers with any grooming related tasks.
· Input necessary data into the client’s file.
· Make sure that the grooming space is kept clean and disinfected at the end of each shift.
· Ensure proper lifting technique.
MAINTENANCE
- Perform all general maintenance of grooming space
- Clean and disinfect cages, tubs, grooming tables at least once daily
- Vacuum floor and mop floor
- Empty trash
- Perform monthly dryer maintenance
POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

- 8 hour Shifts Wednesday – Sunday
- Weekend shifts required
BASIC SKILLS
· Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting methods and the use and care of cleaning materials and equipment.
· Knowledge of proper methods of animal restraint.
· Ability to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency.
· Ability to perform moderately heavy physical labour including the ability to place a dog on the grooming table.
· Strong organizational skills.
· Regular attendance and timeliness are an essential function in order to fulfill the requirements of this position.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
· Ability to multi-task.

COMPENSATION
· This position will start at $17.20/ hr in the first three months of the probation period. After the first three months, a review will be scheduled and reassess compensation from there.
