Parlee McLaws LLP is seeking a Legal Assistant with experience across practice areas to join our team. This role is located at our downtown Edmonton office which operates Monday to Friday from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
The successful candidate is a self-starter with at least four years’ experience within a litigation practice. Experience in complementary practice areas (e.g. corporate/commercial, labour and employment, and / or administrative / regulatory) are an ideal fit for this role, along with the ability to efficiently support at least two lawyers in a high-volume environment.
Key Requirements
- High attention to detail and commitment to accurate, high-quality work
- Highly organized and pro-active approach to meeting deadlines with ability to prioritize and problem-solve through personal initiative
- Substantial reliability and adaptability accompanied by a professional demeanor and conduct
- All administrative tasks relating to handling a file from open to close (preparation of legal documents, court searches, court filings, scheduling of applications and questions, etc.)
- Strong client service and relationship building skills
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge MS Office Suite with working knowledge of other software being an asset (e.g. Worldox, 3E Elite, NetDocs, Remindex, SpeechExec, FoxIt, etc.)
- Experience with preparation of accounts, billing, and time entry with solid understanding of basic accounting principles
Other Requirements
- Post-secondary education from a recognized Legal Assistant/Paralegal program (equivalent experience may be considered)
- Adapt to changing priorities and effectiveness in a high-volume work environment
- Team player willing to help other assistants as needed
- Read, write, and speak English fluently, with solid spelling and grammar skills (additional language skills are an asset)
