Reporting to the Director, Marketing and Communications for the McGill-Desautels Faculty of Management, the Social Media Associate is responsible for promoting and presenting a consistent image of the McGill Desautels Faculty of Management as one of international caliber through content creation for social media and other platforms. Consistent with Desautels’ mission, vision and values, the incumbent will advance the development of all activities related to conceptualizing, elaborating and implementing a proactive, strategically-driven social media communications strategy. Will also provide proactive strategic communication support and content to promote and enhance the Desautels brand. Work closely with the Program/Institute/Centre leaders to deliver communication consultation and assistance with the development and implementation of program-specific communications. Oversee the development and implementation of the Faculty’s social media strategy and provides direction to the Communications Intern and freelance providers.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Participate in the development and implementation of policies and new initiatives that support the strategic direction of the Faculty;
Provide professional expertise and advice on a variety of communication activities and events, including crisis management;
Write, review and/or edit material such as news and articles, program marketing materials, event publicity, press releases, website content, social media and in particular, the Desautels Digest (weekly Faculty newsletter);
Provide writing and editing support for faculty/research projects as needed (letters of support for programs, professor awards, etc.);
Manage the Faculty’s Social Media Strategy and content generation. Liaise with web and digital team for deployment on web and other channels (website channel items, display screen texts, newsletter content, social media platforms);
Build and maintain the school’s social media presence, initiate new and creative growth strategies, providing and updating other Faculty constituents with best practices and trends. Monitor and report on results and implement strategies to improve performance;
Collaborate with the Branding and Marketing Administrator to support the development and production of various communication products (brochures, videos, newsletter) and the Web Manager for website content;
Organize events such as conferences (e.g., Manulife Prize, Research in 2-minutes, Town Hall, Coffee (Kudos) with the Dean and assist with the execution of special events);
Supervise the Communications Intern and freelancers

Education and Experience:
DEC III

Three (3) years’ related experience

Other Qualifying Skills and Abilities:
Experience developing and implementing communications plans and strategies, particularly for social media. Strong writing and communication skills with attention to detail. Knowledge of evolving marketing industry trends for social media. Demonstrated ability in strategy development, planning, implementation, organization and problem-solving skills. Ability to establish priorities and long-short/term plans and objectives. Must be able to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines and to be able to work well in a complex organization with multiple stakeholders. Self-motivated and a highly collaborative, team player. Work experience in a post-secondary environment preferred. English and French, spoken and written.
