Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Installing and configuring database software and related tools
2. Designing and implementing database structures and schemas
3. Monitoring database performance and identifying ways to optimize it
4. Creating and enforcing data security policies and procedures
5. Backing up and restoring databases in case of data loss or corruption
6. Review procedures relating to database changes required of application delivery or infrastructure maintenance
7. Managing user access and permissions to the database
8. Developing and implementing disaster recovery plans
9. Troubleshooting database issues and working with other IT staff to resolve them. After hours on-call support will be required
10.Develop automation for day to day operational database tasks.
11. Maintaining database documentation and keeping it up to date
12. Planning and executing database upgrades and migrations
Qualifications:
1. A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
2. 5-7 years of database administration experience
3. Strong understanding of database technologies, such as Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, and Dynamo, RedShift, and others.
4. Strong working knowledge of cloud technology is an asset.
5. Proficiency in database design, installation, configuration, and maintenance.
6. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential.
7. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze data to identify trends and patterns.
8. Knowledge and experience with SAP HANA is an asset.
9. Certifications in database technologies, such as Oracle Certified Professional or Microsoft Certified Database Administrator is an asset.
10. Continuous learning: The field of database administration is constantly evolving, and DBAs need to stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends. Continuous learning through training, conferences, and professional development courses is important.
