Position: Receiving Manager
Position Summary: The Receiving Manager is responsible for overseeing all receiving operations for a Freshouse Foods with three receiving docks. This role manages inbound delivery scheduling, dock flow, product receiving, cooler, freezer, and trailer inventory, and coordination with production, quality assurance, transportation, and suppliers. The Receiving Manager ensures that all receiving activities support food safety, traceability, inventory control, operational efficiency, and compliance with Canadian Food Inspection Agency requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily receiving operations across three receiving docks, ensuring safe, organized, accurate, and efficient unloading of inbound meat products, ingredients, packaging, supplies, and related materials.
- Develop, maintain, and communicate the delivery schedule to suppliers, carriers, production, and quality assurance to support plant priorities and prevent dock congestion.
- Assign dock doors, receiving labour, staging areas, and equipment based on delivery times, product type, temperature requirements, inspection needs, and production demand.
- Oversee cooler, freezer, and trailer inventory, including product location, rotation, status, lot control, hold/release status, trailer utilization, and inventory accuracy.
- Ensure inbound product checks are completed, including documentation review, product identification, weights, temperature verification, trailer condition, seal checks, product condition, and compliance with facility receiving procedures.
- Work closely with Quality Assurance to ensure Canadian Food Inspection Agency requirements, Safe Food for Canadians Regulations expectations, the facility preventive control plan, sanitation procedures, traceability requirements, and food safety controls are followed during receiving, unloading, loading, and storage activities.
- Identify, segregate, document, and escalate non-conforming product, damaged product, temperature deviations, missing paperwork, rejected loads, pest concerns, sanitation issues, or any condition that could create a food safety or quality risk.
- Maintain accurate receiving records, inventory records, trailer logs, temperature records, traceability information, corrective action records, and related documentation required by company policy and regulatory programs.
- Coordinate repair and maintenance needs for receiving equipment, dock doors, dock plates, trailers, forklifts, pallet jacks, racking, doors, seals, lights, scales, temperature monitoring equipment, and other receiving-area assets.
- Follow up on maintenance work orders to ensure repairs are completed safely, promptly, and with minimal disruption to receiving operations.
- Lead, train, coach, schedule, and hold receiving employees accountable for safe work practices, food safety procedures, inventory accuracy, equipment care, documentation, and productivity.
- Investigate receiving errors, inventory discrepancies, late deliveries, damaged loads, equipment breakdowns, dock delays, and compliance issues; implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Support internal audits, customer audits, CFIA inspection readiness, mock recalls, inventory counts, and continuous improvement initiatives related to receiving and cold-storage operations.
- Promote a safe work environment by enforcing health and safety rules, reporting hazards, supporting incident investigations, and ensuring employees use equipment properly.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of receiving, warehouse, logistics, or cold-storage experience, preferably in a meat, food processing, refrigerated distribution, or CFIA-regulated environment.
- Previous supervisory or lead-hand experience in a fast-paced receiving, warehouse, or manufacturing setting.
- Knowledge of CFIA expectations, Safe Food for Canadians Regulations, HACCP-based or preventive control programs, GMPs, and allergen or cross-contamination prevention is an asset.
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification, where required by the facility an asset.
- Proficiency with inventory management, Microsoft Office, email, spreadsheets, and electronic receiving records.
- Strong planning, scheduling, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple docks, delivery changes, urgent production needs, and inventory priorities at the same time.
- High attention to detail for documentation, product identification, temperatures, inventory accuracy, and regulatory requirements.
- Effective communication skills.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in receiving docks, coolers, freezers, trailers, warehouse areas, and office spaces.
- Exposure to cold temperatures, wet floors, moving equipment, truck traffic, noise, and food processing environments.
- Flexibility may be required for early starts, late deliveries, weekends, overtime, inventory counts, audits, emergency repairs, or production schedule changes.
Pay: $24.00-$28.00 per hour
