While the name has a long history in the region, today's Columbia Bitulithic combines an experienced local workforce with a fresh approach to asphalt paving, highway construction, municipal infrastructure, and aggregate production.
We are building a team focused on safety, quality, accountability, and long-term relationships with our clients and communities. As we continue to grow, we are seeking experienced Asphalt Roller Operators to support our paving operations throughout Northern British Columbia.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Foreman and Superintendent, the Asphalt Roller Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of compaction equipment during asphalt paving operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in achieving pavement density, ride quality, and finished product specifications.
This position requires close coordination with paving crews, screed operators, quality control personnel, and supervisory staff.
This position is seasonal full-time with opportunities for overtime during peak construction periods.
Key Responsibilities
Asphalt Compaction Operations
· Operate asphalt rollers safely and efficiently during paving operations.
· Achieve specified compaction and density requirements.
· Monitor mat temperature and rolling patterns to optimize pavement quality.
· Coordinate with paving crews to maintain production flow.
· Identify and address surface defects during rolling operations.
· Assist with breakdown, intermediate, and finish rolling activities.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
· Conduct daily equipment inspections and complete required documentation.
· Perform basic preventative maintenance and housekeeping of assigned equipment.
· Report equipment deficiencies and maintenance requirements promptly.
· Operate equipment in accordance with company policies and manufacturer recommendations.
Safety & Teamwork
· Promote a strong safety culture and lead by example.
· Follow company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
· Participate in daily safety meetings and hazard assessments.
· Maintain awareness of personnel, equipment, and traffic within the work zone.
· Work collaboratively with paving crews and project personnel.
Qualifications
Experience
· Minimum 2 years of asphalt roller operation experience preferred.
· Experience on highway, municipal, and commercial paving projects considered an asset.
· Experience achieving density specifications and quality requirements preferred.
Technical Skills
Strong understanding of:
· Asphalt compaction principles
· Rolling patterns and procedures
· Pavement density requirements
· Equipment inspection and preventative maintenance
· Construction site safety practices
Communication & Organization
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Effective communication skills.
· Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime and weekends.
Certifications & Requirements
· Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence required.
· Equipment operating experience and related training preferred.
· Must be a member of, or willing and eligible to join, the applicable union.
· Construction safety training and paving-related certifications are considered assets.
