Job Summary
The Terminal Manager is responsible for all aspects of the terminal operations including, scheduling, personnel, maintenance, safety and overall customer satisfaction. The Terminal Manager is also responsible for the proper productivity and fiscal success of the terminal operation.
Specific Responsibilities / Essential Functions
1. Manage all terminal staff. Manage all direct reports by giving clear definition of their roles and responsibilities and making sure they perform accordingly.
2. Managing all scheduling. This involves having complete oversight on all scheduling activity. Scheduling activity involves shift management, and matching personnel scheduling with the workload. The terminal manager has oversight on all salaried and hourly personnel working at the facility.
3. Managing all scheduling of work activity. This involves making sure all inbound and outbound loads are scheduled in and out of the building in proper time, to provide proper transit. The terminal manager has oversight on all timed scheduled deliveries to make sure we are performing to the required level.
4. Managing all direct reports. Communication to all direct reports must be consistent, regular, and clear, showing leadership by example.
5. Foster communication and teamwork among staff to ensure smooth process and good morale. Continually build on teamwork, supports strong retention of staff.
6. Responsible for proper care and maintenance of the facility, ensuring the building is clean, cared for, organized, and maintained. This includes making sure all Health and Safety procedures are followed.
7. Responsible for all equipment connected to the terminal is in good working condition, maintained, tracked, insured properly, with proper paperwork in the truck.
8. Responsible for ensuring the operating system (Truckmate) is properly updated and ensuring that all training requirements for all staff are evaluated, requested and completed.
9. Responsible for all security. This includes security of all the product in our care and possession, company assets, data, IT Equipment and communication equipment. Also responsible for the security of the building, ensuring proper access restriction, and alarm systems are in place.
10. Responsible for the fiscal spend connected to the terminal, within guidelines.
11. Responsible for the fiscal health of the terminal.
12. Responsible for proper productivity of the dispatch function and the warehouse function. In this we are always looking for continuous improvement.
13. Responsible for proper consistent communications to other branches, corporate office.
14. Responsible for proper care, organization and storage of all important paperwork, such as load paperwork, POD’s, compliance documents.
15. In concert with the Safety Manager, ensure that the terminal operations meet all compliance requirements with respect to logbooks, daily activity logs, driver reports.
16. Facilitate and demonstrate proper oversight to make sure all customer interaction is proper and welcoming. The terminal manager is responsible for the satisfaction and retention of all customers being served by and through the terminal.
17. Maintain a familiar level of communication with all major customer relationships.
18. Maintain a high level of integrity in all dealings, internally and externally.
19. Introduce new ideas and any methods that allow for continuous improvement.
20. Must demonstrate leadership and pride in work at all times.
Regular Performance reviews will occur yearly, with detailed records for HR file.
Education and Experience
· High School Diploma. Post Secondary Education preferred.
· Minimum 5-year experience with customer service-related functions.
· Strong oral and written communications skills, especially letter writing.
· Knowledge of personal computer applications
· Initiative to work with minimal instruction and direction
· Positive employee relation skills: ability to coach, support, and maintain morale
· Demonstrated responsibility and maturity
· Demonstrated logistical thinking and problem-solving ability
· Strong organizational skills
