MEOW Foundation (MEOW) is seeking a full-time Intake Assistant. The successful candidate cares deeply about the welfare of cats, is passionate about the goals, mission and vision of MEOW Foundation, enjoys working in the non-profit sector and is looking for a sense of personal fulfillment in the area of animal welfare.
This is a full-time 40 hours per week position; working Tuesday through Saturday with variable hours 8:00 am through 8:00 pm on weekdays and 8 am to 5 pm on Saturdays; the position is based at our Adoption Centre.
Working under the direction of the Intake Team Lead, the successful individual will assist in the delivery of daily care to cats entering the MEOW Adoption Centre, as well as various other assigned tasks including but not limited to: driving to and from veterinary appointments and foster homes, setting and picking up humane traps, receiving food and litter shipments and extra care and cleaning tasks.
Working conditions require exposure to high levels of dust, animal fur, dander and animal waste. zoonotic diseases, cleaning chemicals, wet floors, indoor and outdoor work and on occasion, aggressive animals. On a daily basis this position requires the incumbent to sit, pull, push, crouch, stand, bend, scoop, carry, walk, kneel reach overhead, lift and carry up to 40 lbs/25 kg.
Qualifications: Experience and education in the animal care environment, either with a veterinary clinic or an animal shelter or humane society; combined with demonstrated judgement, good interpersonal and communication skills, both internally and with the public. Related work experience is required, which includes hands on knowledge of cat health, behaviour, and disease prevention, drug inventory, plus safe protocol and administration of medications, vaccines, microchip implants and subcutaneous fluids is an asset.
A valid Alberta driver's license, an insured vehicle, and a willingness to drive throughout Calgary frequently is required. Computer literacy is require for regular data entry and communications.
MEOW Foundation was founded in 2000 as a cat-specific registered not-for-profit organization with a no-kill mandate. MEOW is the only organization in Calgary that offers three foundational programs: Rescue and Adoptions, a subsidized Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) and a Trap Neuter Return (TNR) program for feral cats.
