Position Summary
The Courage Centre is seeking a Research Assistant – Programs & Evaluation to support research, data collection, program evaluation, and knowledge development across our programs.
Working closely with program staff and leadership, the Research Assistant will help assess program outcomes, identify areas for improvement, and contribute to evidence-informed decision-making. This role is an opportunity for a motivated researcher to apply research and evaluation skills in a community-based setting where the work can have a meaningful impact.
Key Responsibilities
· Support the development and implementation of program evaluation activities.
· Assist with collecting, organizing, cleaning, and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data.
· Contribute to evaluating program outcomes, effectiveness, reach, and participant experiences.
· Develop and maintain evaluation tools, surveys, interview guides, databases, and tracking systems.
· Conduct literature reviews and environmental scans relevant to the Centre's programs and areas of service.
· Support the analysis and interpretation of program data and evaluation findings.
· Prepare reports, summaries, presentations, and other knowledge products for internal and external audiences.
· Assist with monitoring program indicators and identifying trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
· Work collaboratively with program staff to ensure evaluation activities are practical, respectful, and aligned with program goals.
· Maintain accurate research records and follow appropriate privacy, confidentiality, and ethical research practices.
· Contribute to continuous quality improvement and evidence-informed program development.
· Perform other research and evaluation duties as required.
Qualifications
Required
- Strong organizational, administrative, and time management abilities.
- Educational background in Gender Studies, or a related field.
- Strong research, writing, and critical-thinking skills.
- Familiarity with academic research methods and literature reviews.
- Understanding of gender-based violence, gender equity, intersectionality, or related social issues.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to synthesize complex information into clear and accessible written materials.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, anti-oppression, and community-based approaches.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic client documentation systems.
- Valid driver's licence and access to reliable transportation (if required).
- Successful Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Fluently bilingual
Preferred
- Experience conducting Gender-based analyses.
- Experience with grant reporting, program evaluation, or community education.
- Experience with program evaluation or applied community research.
- Experience working with qualitative or quantitative research methods.
- Familiarity with community-based or nonprofit organizations.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches.

Working Conditions
- Hybrid and/or remote work.
- Some evening hours may be required to accommodate community events.
- Occasional travel within the service area may be required.
- Position involves data collection regarding topics of a sensitive nature including intimate partner violence and sexual violence which requires effective self-care and professional resilience.
