The Opportunity
Are you an EIT looking for something different in the Geotechnical Engineering field?
Metro Testing & Engineering is looking for someone like you to join our busy Fort St. John office. This is a field position and you will spend time between the office and our clients’ sites. You will not only preform technical work, but also develop and manage professional relationships with clients and field personnel.
This is not a remote or hybrid position and you will be required to work at our Fort St John office.

What you will be doing
· Conduct geotechnical field investigations and monitor construction activities
· Perform soils and concrete testing with Metro’s technicians and to review with the test reports
· Analyze data and prepare recommendations and reports for projects relating to foundation design, retaining wall design, slope stability, road structure design, earthworks, etc.
· Assist with preparing and reviewing geotechnical project proposals
Skills & Qualifications
· Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering with up to 3 years relevant experience
· Registered or eligible for registration with EGBC as an Engineer-In-Training
· Valid Canadian Driver’s License with relatively clean driver’s abstract
· Able to work weekends and overtime during the construction season
· Physically fit – must be able to lift 50 lbs/23 kg and walk long distances
· Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
· Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain positive professional relationships
· Great computer skills (Word/Excel) with the ability to learn new software quickly
· Experience in reading construction drawings
· Mechanical aptitude
Preference will be given to applicants with the followings:
· Experience in materials testing or geotechnical engineering. CCIL certification is an asset
· Valid First Aid Level 1 ticket
· Valid H2S Alive ticket
· Previous experience with soil log software, pile design software, slope analysis software

Metro’s Fort St John office specializes in materials testing and geotechnical engineering for residential, commercial, industrial, municipal, ministry, energy, mining, and oil & gas sectors. The scope of our work is to provide third-party independent sampling and testing of construction materials for quality control/quality assurance purposes, and to provide geotechnical engineering consultation services.
