Major Tasks, Key Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities
The Vice President of Finance plays a pivotal role in driving the financial strategy of the organization, ensuring long-term fiscal health, and optimizing financial performance. As a key member of the executive leadership team, the VP of Finance is responsible for overseeing financial planning, reporting, and risk management while fostering innovation in the company’s financial approach to support business growth.
- Development, analysis, and interpretation of statistical and accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the North American companies.
- Establishes major economic objectives and policies for North American companies and prepares reports that outline their financial position in income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and future operations.
- Directs and coordinates the Company’s financial and budget activities to fund operations, maximize investments, and increase efficiency.
- Responsible for the evaluation and professional development of employees on their team and engages in daily coaching/development activities including keeping their staff motivated and possessing the skills and attitude necessary to meet Company objectives.
- Oversees and directs the preparation of required business reports establishing guidelines and schedules including monthly statements, forecasts, budgets, long-range plans, and other financial reports.
- Evaluates the Enterprise Resource Planning System (Financial Information System) and ensures software is meeting corporate expectations; Works in conjunction with our IT department to recommend and implement software solutions.
- Protects the assets of the North American Companies through systems, procedures, and physical safeguards and ensures the proper utilization of these assets in all areas and departments.
- Analyzes operations to evaluate the performance of the operating businesses and its staff in meeting objectives and determines areas of potential cost reduction, program improvement, or policy change.
- Directs, plans, and implements the various operating businesses' policies, objectives, and activities to ensure continuing operations, maximize returns on investments, and increase productivity.
- Prepares budgets for approval, including those for funding and implementation of programs.
- Directs and/or coordinates activities of operating entities and departments with respect to accounting, production, pricing, sales, credit, information systems, risk, or distribution of products.
- Is responsible for tax planning and compliance with all federal, provincial, state, local corporate, and other applicable taxes.
- Negotiates or approves contracts and agreements with suppliers, distributors, dealers, federal and state agencies, and other organizational entities.
- Confers with management and staff members to discuss issues, coordinate activities, and resolve problems.
- Maintains corporate records.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited University is preferred
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or CGA/CMA designation is required
- Ten (10) years of professional accounting experience in a senior management role
- Any equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education approved by Senior Management
- IFRS/ASPE experience for Canadian and American companies
