The University of Alberta Students’ Union (UASU) is the official student-run organization for undergraduates at the University of Alberta. We aim to improve the student experience through the services, events, businesses and spaces that we provide. We also provide advocacy on behalf of students within the university community, and to all levels of government.
The Human Resource Coordinator will provide support to Leadership, Business and Service Managers and Employees including but not limited to Recruitment, Employee Relations, Performance Management, and HR administration. The incumbent must be able to build relationships with all levels of the organization, effectively solve problems, and have excellent communication skills.
Responsible for the day-to-day HR function, which includes developing and driving various HR processes, procedures, and initiatives;
Prepare and process full-cycle salary monthly payroll for approximately 100 employees;
Administer and maintain the Human Resource Information System (HRIS) database,Time Tracking System, Applicant Tracking System, various Human Resources computer programs and hard copies of employee records ensuring the accuracy of integrity of all data;
Administer employee benefit programs including employee enrollment, employee changes, and submitting monthly invoices;
Administer and manage WCB claims, Disability Claims and employee leaves.
Providing guidance and coaching to managers on employee relations issues including performance management, leaves of absence and compliance with applicable legislation and the Collective Agreement;
Providing advice and responding to employee inquiries on benefits, pay information, internal employee policies and employee relations matters;
Assisting managers with various recruitment and selection activities (job design to on-boarding);
Administration and tracking of HR programs such as performance reviews,onboarding and offboarding;
Prepare and ensure completeness of all employee documents, and the onboarding and offboarding processes;
Works closely with the Finance team for year-end reconciliation and annual audit process; commission, expense reimbursement and other requirements as needed;
Conduct research for various HR initiatives;
Assist and participate in the company’s Health & Safety, and Equity Diversity and Inclusion and Learning and Development programs and initiatives.

Post-secondary education with a focus on Human Resources;
Minimum of 1 years in a HR Coordinator or generalist function;
Strong computer skills that includes working with Microsoft office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Applicant tracking systems, and HRIS;
Working knowledge of employment standards legislation and HR policies and practices;
Strong interpersonal, verbal communication, written communication and presentation skills;
Excellent organizational and planning skills to set and exceed established goals, schedules and deadlines required;
Ability to work independently and appropriately prioritize work while displaying exceptional attention to detail;
Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse team environment to achieve goals and identify and resolve problems;
Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with all employees, while conveying a positive, professional, customer service-oriented attitude
Strong initiative to take direction, apply learning’s, and execute on requests;
High ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion in business relationships and exercise sound business judgment;
Ability to maintain confidential information as it pertains to HR issues.
Experience working with a Student Association is considered an asset;
Experience working within Union and Non-Union environments will be considered an asset.
37.5 hours a week during regular business hours
This position will be partially remote at this time. This is a temporary arrangement and the position may return to working fully onsite in the future.
