Medical Billing Clerk
Emergency Medicine Billing to Medical Services Plan and Private Pay Patients
4 Days per week, 9am-4pm, 6.5 hours per day, paid bi-weekly.
Job Summary:
This is a medical billing clerk position for the Emergency Physicians of Burnaby Hospital’s Emergency Department. BEPA has been in business for over 40 years, and we’re looking to hire a billing clerk. This is an in-office position only, you must have reliable transport or transit access to commute to work. There is free assigned underground parking stall for your vehicle. We are in a medical office building on Sunset Street, one block down from Burnaby Hospital. This is a small office and typically has 2-4 staff per day.
You will have your own corner desk with a selection of assigned Doctors. Typical duties include sorting patient charts into shifts, counting the charts per shift and recording them on a spreadsheet. Each chart will have MSP fee codes written by the doctor for billing to MSP via the Telus MedAccess software. Non-MSP patients may require invoices; you will need to mail out and call patients to follow up on outstanding invoices at the appropriate times.
Each desk will be responsible for reconciling their assigned doctor’s monthly remittance reports and accounts receivable reports for discrepancies and correction of errors, with other similar duties. You must be comfortable working on a computer for the entire shift and be prepared to do a high volume of data entry.
Job Duties:
- Fast, accurate data entry skills and strong keyboard typing skills.
- Must have experience working with a Windows Desktop Computer and be able to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Google Chrome.
- Experience with Medical Billing software, Telus Med Access experience is an asset, Jane App software is not classed as relevant experience.
- Willingness to keep up-to-date and learn new MSP emergency fee codes.
- Fluent in English, with strong reading and speaking skills.
- Demonstrated experience of working independently.
- Must be comfortable making phone calls to patients to discuss outstanding invoices with a calm and friendly approach.
- Familiarity with multi-line phone systems and transferring calls and knowledge of using a fax machine.
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical anatomy and terminology.
- Strong filing and organization skills.
- Must already be located in the Lower Mainland, BC.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. Not recommended for applicants with shoulder, elbow or wrist injuries/chronic pain, or Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
- Probation period of 3 months pending review.
- References from previous employers required.
