Key Responsibilities

Research, seek, and contact sources for obtaining valid supplies and equipment pertinent to each trade. Includes performing comparison between brands of equipment, cost efficiency, and application.
Process all paperwork for ordering consumable and capital equipment in coordination with staff and supervisor.
Receive and process all incoming supplies, including checking invoices for accuracy, follow up with suppliers on backorders.
Accountable to maintain a monthly expense log and verify accuracy of budget printouts.
Collect ideas, design, and create teaching aids for shop and classroom use.
Direct other lab technicians in the preparation of student materials required.
Interpret lab procedures, prepare and set up materials with safety and accessibility considered, promptly clean up, and properly dispose of spent material.
Ensure shops are clean, remove garbage, clean floor and benches, etc.
Maintain and ensure that the workstations, tools, and equipment are complete and functional for each class.
Collaborate with instructors in placement of classes in shop.
Operation of trucks, cars, forklift, and overhead cranes.
Report safety concerns or violations to supervisor.
Act as the primary contact for all instructors and students on issues, such as scheduling/arrangement of specific activities with shops, availability and proper use of supplies/equipment, etc.

Job Requirements

Preference would be given to a candidate with a relevant Journeyperson Certificate (Auto Service, Heavy Equipment and/or Parts Technician) and/or five years of experience in related fields.
Forklift training would be an asset.
Excellent computer and communication skills.
This position may require heavy lifting and being active for majority of the workday.
The individual should be comfortable working independently and as part of a team.

Additional Information

This is a Full-time Temporary position as an Automotive/Diesel Educational Laboratory Technician with Trades & Technology on the Vermilion campus, commencing as soon as a suitable candidate is available. The Salary range for this position is $56,450 to 71,141 per annum.
