We are looking for a Consulting Engineer to join our Professional Services group to help with the geographic expansion of these services across Canada. This will be a mixed role with the candidate working both in a billable capacity (with 50% target utilization) as well as being responsible for business development for professional services across Canada. The ideal candidate will bring with them a wealth of industry contacts and relevant job knowledge related to either materials/welding engineering (SKC) or pipeline integrity (Kiefner).
The Business Development Manager identifies the needs of clients, deals with issues proactively and provides solutions, while ensuring superior customer service and professional corporate representation at all times.
Due to the nature of this position there will be some on-call and overtime requirements as well as some travel.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the coordination of all business development activities in all regions across Canada to maximize revenue and profit opportunity, while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction, company reputation, employee satisfaction, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Develop and implement business development strategies and execution plans for assigned business lines or regions.
Develop and actively maintain relationships with key industry contacts, including current and potential clients, respected industry experts, and current and potential employees.
Ensure two points of contact are maintained with all key clients at all times.
Conduct research into and analysis of standard business development elements such as competition (services, pricing, failures, etc), technological developments, market trends, and economic conditions to identify business risks and opportunities.
Assist in the coordination of the completion of internal PAPs, and external RFIs, RFPs, and bid documents to ensure timely, accurate, and high quality submissions.
Ensure contract documents are reviewed and approved by necessary company and legal experts prior to execution.
Assist in maintaining effective communications between business development, support services, and operations teams.
Facilitate transfer of new technologies or best practices between different Canadian and international Applus regions by staying up-to-date on new developments, identifying potential applications and clients, and coordinating internal and client education sessions.
Collaborate with operations and finance teams to develop national and regional pricing strategies.
Coordinate representation of Applus in external NDT groups, such as code committees and conferences.
Assist regional and divisional management in developing annual business plans, as well as with budgeting and forecasting activities.
Interface with NOAM and global business development representatives to identify cross-regional opportunities and strategies.
Adherers to organizational policies and procedures, including but not limited to Applus Code of Ethics and Confidentiality Agreements.
Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary.

Education and Work Experience:
Bachelors’ degree in Engineering or Business Administration strongly recommended.
Minimum ten years of applicable business development and/or operational experience in NDT with a strong client service background.
Equivalent industry experience combined with other formal training and accreditations may be accepted.
The physical environment requires the employee to work inside an office environment, protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
The work is primarily sedentary.
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
Work outside of normal business hours will be occasionally required.
Occasional to frequent travel will be required within Canada.
