About the role:
We are seeking a hard-working Mortgage Underwriter to join our dynamic team in the Toronto office to support the underwriting of British Columbia mortgages. You will be responsible for recommending mortgage applications by reviewing, analyzing, and assessing borrowers' financial information and property evaluation while following established policies and procedures. Responsibilities:
- Supporting British Columbia hours 12:00 pm EST to 8:00 pm EST
- Exercise consistent, objective and sound credit decisions within authorized limits, escalating where appropriate.
- Receive, review, analyze and verify mortgage applications for completeness, accuracy, suitability and risk to ensure compliance with all aspects of Vaults' underwriting policies, procedures and guidelines per delegated authority.
- Negotiate, recommend and approve loan terms within Vaults' risk appetite
- Issue mortgage commitments with appropriate conditions and follow up with mortgage brokers for sign-back.
- Providing excellent customer service, including efficient turnaround time to brokers, while building and maintaining positive working relationships.
- Work in collaboration with the Mortgage Fulfillment Team to closely manage pipelines, assist in collecting outstanding documentation when needed, satisfy the requirements as stipulated in the commitment and close deals on a timely basis.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the competition, industry trends and market conditions.
- Maintain knowledge of all applicable underwriting guidelines.
Qualifications:
- 3 - 5 years of mortgage lending experience
- BC Mortgage Broker license preferred
- Ontario Mortgage Broker license an asset
- Alternative mortgage market lending experience is an asset.
- Strong documentation skills, with the ability to manage large volumes of documentation.
- Professional, polished, clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a changing environment with constant moving targets
