Position Summary
We are looking for a reliable and safety-conscious Forklift Driver / Order Picker to support our shop and material handling operations.
This is a fast-paced, hands-on position that involves safely operating a forklift, receiving and moving lumber and building materials, preparing materials for production, and picking orders accurately based on specifications.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, has strong attention to detail, and takes pride in keeping materials organized and production moving efficiently.
Hours
This is a full-time position working:
Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Wage
Starting at $20.00 per hour
Job Duties
- Safely operate a forklift to move lumber, wall panels, and other building materials
- Pick lumber and materials according to shop orders and specifications
- Prepare and stage materials for prefabrication and production
- Unload incoming trucks and organize received materials
- Load outgoing trucks with wall panels, lumber, and other building materials
- Move and organize materials throughout the shop and yard
- Work with the production team to ensure required materials are available when needed
- Verify materials and quantities to ensure orders are accurate
- Handle lumber and building materials safely and efficiently
- Assist with inventory organization and material storage
- Assist in the shop with orders and other duties as required
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop and yard
- Complete required safety documentation and equipment inspections
- Comply with company policies, procedures, and safety requirements
Qualifications
The following qualifications are required:
- Valid forklift certification
- Minimum 1 year of forklift operating experience
- Experience working as an Order Picker or in a material handling position
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation to and from work (there is no public transit to our location)
- Ability to safely load, unload, move, and organize lumber and building materials
- Physically capable of performing labour-intensive work in a fabrication shop and yard environment
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately follow order specifications
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment
- Safety-conscious and dependable
The following would be considered assets:
- Knowledge of lumber and building materials
- Experience working in a lumber yard, manufacturing facility, or construction environment
- Framing or carpentry experience
- Experience loading and unloading trucks
Work Conditions
- Use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Regular work around forklifts, machinery, vehicles, and moving mechanical equipment
- Work takes place both indoors and outdoors
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and inclement weather
- Exposure to dust and intermittent loud noise
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, as well as regularly push, pull, carry, bend, and reach
- Requires good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination
- Requires the ability to remain physically active throughout the shift
- Exposure to hazards commonly associated with construction, manufacturing, and material-handling environments
