An exciting opportunity exists for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary neonatal team in the delivery of care to neonates and their families in a 16 bed level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at South Health Campus (SHC) in Calgary, Alberta. South Health Campus was built with a vision to support patients as close to home and communities as possible. The operational philosophy has been built on Four Pillars. These Pillars guide every facet of operation of the South Health Campus: Collaborative Practice Innovation Patient & Family Centered Care Wellness Neonatal nursing is a subspecialty of nursing that works with newborn infants born with a variety of issues ranging from prematurity, birth defects, infection, cardiac malformations and surgical. Caring for the youngest and smallest of patients, attention to detail and critical thinking are essential to the neonatal nurse’s role. A high level of competency and proficiency is also required in order to work within this highly technical area. Nurses should be able to evaluate challenging situations and make quick judgments based on the fluctuating health status of NICU patients. Additionally, they need to be able to maintain a level-head when faced with ethical and emotional situations, and care for families with an empathetic understanding of their situation.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Recent (within the last year) experience with care and assessment of the newborn
