Jones & Company has acted as the Agents for the Public Prosecution Service of Canada (PPSC) on Vancouver Island for many years. We have offices in both Victoria and Nanaimo.
We are looking for counsel with litigation experience, preferably in criminal or administrative law, with trial experience and familiarity with Court proceedings. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to travel to all Court jurisdictions on Vancouver Island (hence a vehicle is required), conducting trials, preliminary inquiries, sentencing hearings, and bail hearings (more routine appearances are typically done over MS Teams). (Note: Travel time is billable time and mileage, meals and accomodation are all recoupable disbursements). Members of our firm appear in both the Provincial and Supreme Court on a regular basis.
Our files are largely related to prosecutions under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, particularly involving charges of drug trafficking and possession for the purpose of trafficking. We also prosecute a significant number of files on behalf of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans as well as files under all other Federal Statutes. All our lawyers are involved in charge assessments and disclosure obligations, as well as remand court appearances.

Salary is dependent on year of Call and level of experience. A generous bonus structure is on top of the base salary. Selected candidates will be invited to an in-person or MS Teams interview.
