SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director – Transportation Network Strategy, the Carrier Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with transportation carriers
to ensure optimal service, cost efficiency, and compliance within a Third-Party Logistics (3PL) environment. This role includes exposure to carrier sourcing, performance management, and ensuring capacity availability and competitive pricing across multiple transportation modes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead carrier sourcing initiatives, including RFPs and contract negotiations for TL, LTL, intermodal, and parcel services.
- Secure competitive rates and capacity to meet customer and operational requirements.
- Maintain a balanced carrier portfolio to mitigate risk and ensure service reliability.
- Build and sustain strong partnerships with carriers to foster collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Act as the primary point of contact for carrier escalations and issue resolution.
- Conduct regular business reviews with carriers to assess performance and strategic alignment.
- Track and analyze carrier KPIs (on-time delivery, claims ratio, cost performance).
- Ensure carriers comply with contractual obligations, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Implement corrective actions for underperforming carriers and drive improvement plans.
- Collaborate with internal teams to align carrier strategies with network optimization goals.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings, service enhancements, and capacity improvements.
- Stay informed on market trends and proactively adjust carrier strategies to maintain competitiveness.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, a related field or equivalent experience.
EXPERIENCE
- 3+ years in transportation management, carrier relations, or procurement (preferably in a 3PL environment).
- Strong knowledge of TL, LTL, intermodal, and parcel markets.
- Experience with freight procurement technology and market benchmarking tools
SKILLS
- Excellent negotiation and relationship management skills.
- Proficiency in TMS platforms and data analysis tools.
- Strong leadership and communication abilities.
- Experience with freight procurement technology and market benchmarking tools.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance and carrier safety standards
