We are seeking a Childcare Director to support daily operations, team leadership, and program quality while ensuring our centre continues to meet all licensing and child protection standards.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Childcare Manager, the Director supports the overall management and operations of the childcare centre, including staffing, program quality, parent communication, and compliance. This role contributes to a positive workplace culture and ensures that programming remains meaningful, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with YMCA curriculum standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Support day‑to‑day centre operations, including staffing and scheduling.
- Ensure high‑quality childcare experiences aligned with YMCA Playing to Learn and A Place to Connect.
- Provide direct program leadership and oversee program planning.
- Ensure the centre meets all licensing requirements and child protection standards.
- Support staff participation in Occupational Health & Safety processes.
- Assist with annual fundraising and community engagement activities.
- Submit facility work orders and follow up on building needs.
- Foster positive relationships with families, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
- Support team use of communication tools (e.g., Weemarkable app).
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Childcare Manager.
Qualifications
- Required: Early Childhood Educator Level 2 or Level 3 Classification (NS ECE Wage Scale applies).
- Post‑secondary education in Early Childhood Education or related field, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Experience with YMCA Playing to Learn is an asset.
- Strong working knowledge of the NS Childcare Licensing Act and Regulations an asset.
- 3–5 years of supervisory or leadership experience (not‑for‑profit experience considered an asset).
- Experience supporting diverse children and families, including children with disabilities.
- Valid Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, Child Abuse Registry Check.
- Current First Aid & CPR certifications.
- Strong organizational, communication, and relationship‑building skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to remain calm, problem‑solve, and lead effectively in a busy childcare environment.
- Valid NS driver’s license or reliable transportation.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends.
