Today, Okanagan Frozen Dough is recognized as one of the most respected suppliers of frozen dough products in Western Canada, serving major grocery retailers and independent bakeries and grocers throughout the region.
As we transition and position ourselves to scale, we are looking for a full-time, career-oriented accountant. This role provides oversight and oversees financial activities, ensuring accurate reporting, compliance with regulations, and strategic financial planning for the company as a whole. At OKFD, this is an essential and highly valued position that can be located at either our Armstrong or Balzac locations while providing services and oversite to both. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, along with 3+ years of progressive experience in financial management and reporting, complemented by CPA or similar certification. Any experience in industrial or manufacturing settings would will also be considered an asset.
Responsibilities
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement) ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) or IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards).
- Prepare bank deposits, general ledger postings and statements
- Reconcile accounts in a timely manner
- Provide timely and accurate financial reports to management and other stakeholders.
Management Accounting:
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely payment and collection.
- Maintain inventory records and troubleshoot discrepancies in coordination with Sales, Inventory, & Logistics Coordinator.
- Manage payroll and benefits administration and processes.
- Manage WCB, WorkSafe and related reporting/processes.
Financial Planning and Analysis:
- Develop budgets and financial forecasts based on historical data and management input.
- Monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts, providing variance analysis and recommendations for improvement.
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with all government and CRA reporting/filing requirements.
- Implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure integrity of financial data.
- Conduct audits (internal or external) and assist in preparing audit schedules and responses.
Ethical Standards and Professionalism:
- Uphold ethical standards and integrity in financial reporting and business practices.
- Stay informed about changes in accounting regulations and industry trends, ensuring compliance and best practices.
Other tasks as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (in particular Excel), Sage Accounting Software and have experience with manufacturing ERP systems (e.g., FocusWorks, or similar).
- CPA with 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in Accounting, Finance, or similar.
- Proficiency in accounting principles and practices, including GAAP or IFRS.
- Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and financial analysis.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Advanced communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
- Commitment to ethical conduct and integrity in financial reporting and business practices.
- Team player with a strong ability to multitask across a variety of management responsibilities.
- High attention to detail.
- Food industry and/or manufacturing experience would be considered an asset.

- Salary range between $65,000 - 90,000 per year, based on the candidate’s qualifications and prior experience
