Registered Practical Nurse
Looking for a staff who can work in Retirement Home settings
KEY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES and EXPERIENCE:
- Observes and monitors condition of clients and reports injuries, and general physical and emotional condition to supervisor and physicians
- Medication administration, narcotic control, application of treatments and dressings, transcription of physician orders, reordering of medications and other skills
- Participate as an interdisciplinary team member
- Supports and instructs client and family in care plans; offers emotional support; answers questions from client and family. Maintains personal care records
- Provides nursing care and develops and modifies care plans for residents/clients
- Informs clients about medications and side effects
- Administers first aid including CPR as necessary
- Orients new clients and staff and familiarizes them with surroundings. Notifies departments and individuals of admittance
- Prepares client for transfer or departure, including organization of personal belongings, contacting of appropriate organization (hospital, coroner's office, etc.), and completion of required documentation
- Schedules appointments with hospitals, clinics, diagnostic services, and health specialists by telephone, arranging for transportation and/or escort
- Ensures results/hospital records are available to client
- Occasionally provides personal care for residents/clients, i.e. hygiene, bathing, dressing and undressing, toileting, ambulation, and transferring using applicable electric/hydraulic/manual equipment and lifting devices
- Prepares and maintains documentation i.e. charts, records, and incident reports
- Obtains admission history with clients regarding medical history, immunizations, etc
- Educates clients and emphasizes important health and medical information
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Able to speak Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin)
- Current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse from the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Diploma graduate of a recognized college or school of nursing or equivalent (i.e. certificate RPN with added courses in medication administration)
- Minimum of one year experience in geriatric, rehabilitation or long-term care preferred
- Possession of valid CPR and First Aid certificates
- Willing to work shift duties at a rotation basis
- Ability to discern relevant information to make effective judgement and decisions to manage care
- Ability to work as a team leader
- Demonstrate supervisory skills
- Demonstrate core competencies, i.e. customer services, continuous improvement, leadership and initiatives and team player
- Adhere to professional competences, i.e. caring and respectful behaviour, therapeutic relationship, clinical skills and knowledge, strong assessment skills, communication skills, conflict management skills and organisation skills
- Proficiency in oral and written English
- Cultural sensitive and ability to speak Cantonese/Mandarin in addition to English would be an asset
- Relevant computer literacy
