Job Posting: Child Care Assistant Supervisor (Contract Position)
Position Overview
We are currently seeking a Child Care Assistant Supervisor (6–12 month contract) to join our leadership team. This position is ideal for someone with a passion for early learning and proven supervisory experience in a licensed child care setting. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the centre, supporting educators, ensuring compliance with licensing regulations, and fostering a high-quality, play-based learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Oversight
- Ensure full compliance with all legislative and regulatory requirements, including the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), Ministry of Education licensing standards, municipal by-laws, health and fire codes, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Prepare for and participate in licensing inspections, quality assurance visits, and internal audits
- Oversee daily operations such as staff-to-child ratios, staff schedules, and classroom coverage
- Manage enrollment, waitlists, family transitions, and other administrative duties in coordination with the Director
Program Support
- Ensure a high-quality, play-based curriculum is implemented across all age groups
- Support educators in planning and delivering developmentally appropriate programming aligned with ELECT and How Does Learning Happen? frameworks
- Monitor classroom environments and materials to promote learning, safety, and inclusion
- Encourage documentation and reflective practices among educators
Staff Supervision & Leadership
- Provide leadership and support to RECEs, assistants, and support staff through coaching, mentoring, and daily check-ins
- Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and assist with staff development plans
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing training and professional development opportunities
- Organize and facilitate regular staff meetings to encourage collaboration and continuous improvement
Family and Community Engagement
- Foster strong, respectful relationships with families through daily communication, scheduled conferences, newsletters, and family events
- Respond to parent questions or concerns in a timely and professional manner
- Represent the centre in professional networks and community partnerships as needed
Administrative Duties
- Maintain accurate, confidential records including attendance, incident reports, staff qualifications, health checks, and child development documentation
- Ensure all documentation required for licensing and Ministry compliance is current and organized
- Assist with budgeting, ordering supplies, and maintaining appropriate inventory levels
- Collaborate with the Director/Owners on centre-wide planning and initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE), in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE)
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in a licensed child care centre
- Minimum 6 months of supervisory or leadership experience within a child care setting
- Strong understanding of early childhood development and play-based learning approaches.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Check
