Taber Special Needs Society has been in existence since 1987. The Society provides support to adults with developmental disabilities. The Society advocates and supports an inclusive environment both for the individuals and the staff that support them. There will be on the job training and job shadowing.
Rotation details: This a 2 week rotation with every 2nd weekend off. The rotation is 40 hours a week and the shifts are 10 hours long.
There are also part time and relief positions at the residence. Those positions do not have extended benefits or paid vacations attached to them.
Overview: Supporting 2 young women and 1 middle aged man in their residence and in the community. You will be actively assisting to create opportunities for the individuals to use and expand their skills, abilities and interests in their home and in the community. You will be assisting the 3 individuals in all areas in their home. This includes but not limited to dietary needs, hygiene and personal care, general housekeeping, money transactions, shopping, crafts, and recreation.
Responsibilities: Assisting with making and maintaining connections in the community, assisting with all aspects of residential living including personal care, assisting to achieve goals set by the individuals, following their Person-Centered Care Plan, help promote independence and healthy living.
Qualifications: To be successful you need to be adaptable to change in daily routines, be able to physically handle lifting, pushing, pulling, walking up to 8 blocks. The people you will work with enjoy going for long walks and connecting with their neighborhoods. You will need to be able to do bending while completing a task, be comfortable with assisting individuals to be visible in the community, be able to problem solve day to day minor issues as they come up, be coachable, able to work independently while in a team setting, enjoy creating opportunities for growth for those you are working with.
As well as: · be 18 years of age or older. ·possess a valid class 5 driver’s license and a reliable vehicle with proof of $2 million liability insurance. · possess a clean criminal record check with the vulnerable persons sector check.
Experience in the disability sector or health sector is an asset, but not necessary as we provide all training.
