Role: Laser Optimization Specialist (Weekend Shift)
The Laser Optimization Specialist plays a key role in driving manufacturing excellence by optimizing laser fabrication processes, improving equipment performance, and enhancing overall operational efficiency. This position combines technical expertise in laser/CNC cutting, automation, and fabrication with a strong focus on quality, throughput, and continuous improvement. Working closely with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and Programming teams, the Laser Optimization Specialist identifies and implements process enhancements that reduce costs, improve material utilization, and support production goals. The successful candidate will also provide technical leadership through troubleshooting, training, and the development of manufacturing standards and best practices.
The shift for this position is Friday - Monday
Key Responsibilities
- Lead process optimization activities to improve quality, throughput, OEE, and material utilization.
- Develop and maintain fabrication parameters, nesting strategies, and manufacturing standards.
- Provide technical support for laser/CNC cutting, forming, automation systems, and fabrication processes.
- Troubleshoot production, quality, programming, and equipment-related issues through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Analyze manufacturing performance data and drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime, scrap, and operating costs.
- Support programming, maintenance, operations, and engineering teams with process development and technical expertise.
- Identify opportunities for design-for-manufacturability improvements and collaborate with Engineering on product and process enhancements.
- Support equipment upgrades, automation projects, and capital investment initiatives.
- Develop work instructions, best practices, operating procedures, and training materials.
- Train operators and technical personnel on machine operation, process control, troubleshooting, and laser safety requirements.
Requirements:
- Successfully completed a Mechanical Engineering Technology Program, Mechanical Engineering Degree. A combination of relevant education, training, or industry experience may be considered.
- The ability to interpret machine schematics, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, electrical systems, engineering drawings.
- Mechanically inclined with strong troubleshooting skills.
- Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience/education.
- The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Assets:
- Experience with programming and running Lasers and other CNC machines
- Experience with PLC’s, HMI’s, and other machine controls
- Ability to use 3D CAD software
- Familiarity with Salvagnini or Trumpf Laser/CNC.
- Mechanical or electrical design experience
- The ability to use CAD/CAM software.
