This position is responsible for developing, supporting, directing and maintaining SMS Equipment’s Remote Mining locations and support groups in Canada. Responsibilities include oversight of all Remote Mining operations, which includes Remote Mining Central Parts, Central Administration, Acheson Branch, Hinton Branch, Yellowknife Branch, Gahcho Kue Branch, Fort Frances Branch and Fort Hills Branch related to customers, parts, service, labour, finance and site-specific requirements in order to achieve the Company’s mission and to implement and support the policies, goals, and objectives established by the President and SMS management. Liaises with all Senior Leadership Team (SLT) members, employees, customers, OEM’s and other suppliers to ensure delivery and support to the customer. Reports to the GM Mining Operations.
Collaborates with the GM, Mining Operations and the senior management group to establish and formulate short and long-term operational plans, objectives and performance goals, as they relate, but not limited to safety, finance, customer satisfaction, machine and contractual performance, service delivery. Fosters a success-oriented and accountable environment.
Supports the Company’s commitment to objectives and goals set forth in the Company’s Business Plan.
Advises the GM, Mining Operations on strategic business development and key corporate planning issues and makes recommendations on major business decisions.
Advises GM, Mining Operations on all matters within the Remote Mining Operations including sales, service and parts, planning, conduct of analyses, the handling of issues, and provision of appropriate controls and reports.
Responsible for identifying business activities, potential threats, opportunities and implementing actions, within their line of Authority. Advises GM, Mining Operations on business activities, potential threats, opportunities and recommended actions.
Develops and achieves short- and long-term planning objectives of the relevant sites.
As the Senior Representative, responsible for the creation and maintenance of senior customer relations, as related to Equipment performance, Service delivery performance, and overall relationship health. Fosters a success-oriented and accountable environment.
Maintains regular contact with senior and key customer personnel in order to develop an environment that SMS can be successful with delivering on its obligations, contractual commitments, and expectations.
Responsible for identifying business activities, potential threats, opportunities and implementing actions, within their line of authority. Advises GM, Mining Operations on business activities, potential threats, opportunities and recommended actions, outside of their line of authority.
Develops and achieves short- and long-term objectives with the customer to ensure SMS meets its expectations and commitments at each of the relevant sites.
Responsible for the strategic management and activities of the branch operations, customers, parts, service, labour, finance, and site-specific requirements; aligning with the objectives and directives of the GM, Mining Operations and senior management group.
Prepares business plans and budgets, organizes and directs all branch operations and relevant site activities.
Ensures current assets are efficiently employed by branch operations; including but not limited to Cost/Expense control, Work In Process, Accounts Receivable, Warranty Claims, Products Support, Inventory Control, Service and Parts Management.
Ensures implementation of corporate initiatives, policies and procedures, and business processes by ensuring proper communication, education and training.
Capable of driving future production and maximizing the performance of the Remote Mining Operations as it relates to safety, environmental compliance, best practices, profitability, quality, cost reduction, workflow, productivity, and human resources.
Reviews operating results, compares with established objectives, and takes the appropriate measures to ensure that results are realized and that outcomes and performance are enhanced.
Reviews opportunity for revenue growth, setting expectations for Remote Mining Operations, regularly following up on progress and future opportunities.
Reviews, monitors and evaluates the merits and risks of products marketed by the Company or offered to the Company by prospective suppliers or manufacturers.
Monitors utilization of fixed assets. Reviews and recommends/ approves capital investments to maximize business opportunities, reduce costs and improve efficiencies.
Approves, monitors and ensures compliance with all contractual customers, contractors and supplier agreements in order to minimize risk and maximize potential profitability.
Monitors warranty, policy and administration to ensure maximum warranty cost recovery and minimize risk exposure and cost.
Directs and coordinates the interpretation, implementation, adherence, and application of programs, policies and procedures, and regulatory requirements relating to the relevant sites including, but not limited to:
Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment
Human Resources, Labour and Employee Relations

Develops, mentors, motivates, focuses and retains a competent management and senior management team within the Remote Mining region, capable of achieving the Company’s mission.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The typical minimum level of education to perform this job competently is equivalent to completion of an undergraduate degree in a related field or post secondary technical education supplemented by additional related coursework. The work requires a sound understanding of leadership, management of operations, the construction, mining, and forestry industries & maintenance practices, as well as knowledge of equipment & parts distribution. The ability to manage in a diverse environment with focus on client and customer services and entrepreneurship is essential to success in this role.
A minimum of 10 – 15 years experience within the following industries: equipment & parts distribution, construction, mining, or other industrial business with a strong operations orientation is required.
