To provide safe, secure, confidential crisis and support services to women and their children in Haliburton and Peterborough Counties who have experienced abuse while working within the YWCA philosophy and policy guidelines.

Major Responsibilities:

-Effectively assist the Manager in leading shelter operations, client activities and overall shelter programs to meet the organization's vision and mission.

-Supervise staff when the Shelter Manager is not available, develop schedules, approve time sheets as well as vacation requests, and ensure adequate staffing levels for each shift.

-Assist Manager in coaching and professional development of employees as needed

-Meet with clients to resolve disputes and de-escalate situations as necessary.

-As part of the rotation of on-call supervisors, respond to overnight phone calls from staff requiring guidance and/or support.

-Defuse and de-escalate difficult situations involving clients and staff.

-Assist Manager in maintaining a professional culture that promotes teamwork and empathy for clients.

-Assist Manager to ensure accurate data entry of client information into WISH.

-Oversee property/maintenance/facilities and any other duties as assigned by the Shelter Manager.

Knowledge/Education:

-4-year post-secondary degree in social services or related field.

-Minimum 3 years progressively responsible experience and at least 1-year supervisory experience, preferably in a shelter setting.

-Expertise in conflict transformation/resolution.

-Excellent knowledge and understanding of; Violence against women and children in urban and rural areas, shelter programs and services and legislation and funder's standards governing shelters

-Supervisory experience in a unionized environment, including providing instructions and guidance to staff within the context of a collective agreement

-High level of commitment to service provision from feminist, trauma-and violence-informed, anti-oppressive and harm reduction frameworks.

-Expertise in infection control in a residential/medical setting is an asset.
