Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented junior lawyer with 1-5 years of experience to join our legal team. We are a smaller Edmonton law firm that focusses exclusively on dispute resolution and litigation work (civil/commercial, estates, insolvency, and matrimonial). We offer a base salary and then bonuses depending on performance, meaning that annual income can be higher than the range indicated in this posting. We offer a package of benefits (health, dental, short and long term disability, and life insurance) and a health spending account. CBA, insurance and LSA costs are also covered, as is some further ongoing legal education. We are a smaller firm with a flexible and friendly environment committed to helping our lawyers excel in the practice of law.
Duties
- Conduct comprehensive legal research using tools such as Westlaw to support case preparation and legal analysis.
- Draft, review, and revise legal documents including pleadings, memoranda, and correspondence with precision and clarity.
- Negotiate on behalf of clients to reach favorable agreements while maintaining professional integrity.
- Provide sound legal advice to clients or internal teams regarding various issues.
- Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, or court proceedings when necessary.
- Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry trends to ensure ongoing compliance and effective legal strategies.
- Maintain meticulous records of case files, legal documents, and correspondence for efficient case management.
Skills
- Proficiency in legal research platforms such as Westlaw
- Strong negotiation skills to advocate effectively on behalf of clients or the organization.
- Excellent research abilities to gather pertinent information quickly and accurately.
- Exceptional writing skills for drafting clear, concise, and persuasive legal documents.
- Expertise in legal drafting to produce accurate pleadings, offers, settlement agreements, and other formal documents.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail to identify key issues and develop strategic solutions.
- Ability to interpret complex laws and regulations accurately.
- Effective English communication skills for speaking with clients, and colleagues,
- Excellent advocacy and communication abilities before the courts, and other tribunals.
- Strong computer skills for Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and other Microsoft products
Pay: $75,000.00-$125,000.00 per year
