The Supervised Consumption Service Medical professional under the direction of the Clinical Lead of SCS, provides supervision to those actively consuming substances within a Mobile Supervised Consumption Service (MSCS) unit. This position requires a harm reduction approach and includes the completion of pre-and post-consumption assessments, the distribution of harm reduction supplies and providing substance consumption related education to program clients. The MSCS medical staff will act as a first responder, taking the lead during emergencies both within the unit and outside in the immediate surrounding area.

Duties and responsibilities:
- Providing substance consumption related education (vein care, overdose prevention).
- Monitoring of clients actively consuming substances.
- Vital sign assessments and interventions.
- Adverse event management (Naloxone administration, oxygen, CPR).
- Ensure all operations within the SCS comply with requirements set by Health Canada and the Province of Alberta.
- Maintaining records and documentation.
- Provide basic wound assessment and treatment.
- Complete referrals.
- Distribute harm reduction supplies (needles, condoms, naloxone) and related education.
Qualifications:
- Completion of one or more of the following programs, and registered under appropriate Albertan licensing body: PCP or ACP or RN or LPN or RPN
- Criminal record with vulnerable sector check required.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driver abstract.
- Valid BLS Level C.
- Experience working with diverse marginalized populations.
- Experience in public health/ addictions and/or emergency services.
- Ability to work independently and supervise others.
- Knowledge of harm reduction and its principles.
- STBBI education, prevention, and treatment knowledge.
- Knowledge of addiction and mental health.
- Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
- Strong sense of ethics and the ability to handle sensitive or private information with tact and discretion.
Working conditions:
Working for Northreach Society requires employees to be physically mobile. Candidate must be able to lift and carry objects, be on feet and/or walk for long periods of time, as well spend significant periods of time performing administrative duties. As the Supervised Consumption Site is a mobile unit, staff must be comfortable working in a smaller space in close proximity to clients and other staff. Staff will also be comfortable working with intoxicated individuals and responding to drug poisonings.
