Summary
We are seeking a motivated Sawmill Maintenance Millwright Apprentice to join our sawmill maintenance team. This is an entry-level opportunity for someone who is mechanically inclined, eager to learn, and interested in building a career in equipment maintenance within a sawmill and wood manufacturing environment.
The successful candidate will work alongside experienced maintenance and production staff to learn how to inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair sawmill equipment while supporting safe and efficient daily operations. The role will also include training on equipment where required, based on operational needs and the candidate's skill level.
Responsibilities
- Assist with routine maintenance and repairs on sawmill equipment to maintain good working order
- Ensure preventative maintenance tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner on an ongoing basis and inventories of spare parts are organized and maintained
- Support preventative maintenance tasks on machinery, conveyors, saws, motors, bearings, belts, chains, hydraulics, and related equipment
- Help inspect equipment for wear, damage, safety concerns, or production issues
- Assist with troubleshooting mechanical problems under supervision
- Support equipment cleaning, lubrication, adjustments, and part changes
- Train on sawmill equipment where required to better understand safe operation, maintenance needs, and production flow
- Learn proper lockout/tagout and workplace safety procedures
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance area
- Help prepare tools, parts, and materials for maintenance work
- Record completed maintenance tasks as required
- Work with the maintenance and production team to reduce downtime
- Perform all tasks in accordance with established Safe Work Practices and Standard Operating Procedures
- Follow direction from the Maintenance Lead, Lead Hand, or Manager
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Mechanical aptitude and interest in sawmill equipment, machinery, or trades
- Willingness to learn and take direction
- Reliable, punctual, and safety conscious
- Comfortable working in a sawmill or industrial production environment
- Able to use basic hand tools and power tools
- Strong attention to detail, communication and problem solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Previous experience in a sawmill, manufacturing, construction, farm, automotive, welding, or equipment repair setting is an asset, but not required
- Grade 12 High school diploma
- Previous Training in PLC and Programming, Millwrighting and Machining, Welding and Fabrication, saw filing, Engineering Technology – an asset
- Flexibility to work overtime as required
- Valid driver’s license

Work Schedule
- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
- 8.5 hour shifts
- Occasional overtime may be required based on operational needs
- 2 (4%) weeks vacation
Compensation
Range: $23 to $32 depending on experience
Overtime at 1.5 after 44 hours per week
