We are looking for an experienced Director of Cybersecurity to lead and strengthen an enterprise-wide cybersecurity program in Toronto, Ontario. This role will shape the organization’s security direction, safeguard critical systems and data, and ensure security practices align with operational and strategic priorities. The successful candidate will work closely with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to build resilient controls, support compliance obligations, and foster a strong culture of security awareness.
Responsibilities:
- Create and advance a long-range cybersecurity strategy that supports business goals and addresses evolving threats across the organization.
- Guide security governance and risk management activities by identifying priorities, assessing exposures, and recommending practical mitigation plans.
- Collaborate with business units and technical teams to integrate security expectations into projects, processes, and day-to-day operations.
- Oversee compliance efforts related to privacy obligations and recognized security standards, ensuring policies and controls remain current and effective.
- Lead core security operations, including vulnerability oversight, threat detection, incident investigation, and coordinated response activities.
- Establish, review, and refine information security policies, standards, and procedures to strengthen operational consistency and control effectiveness.
- Direct identity and access management improvements, with attention to privileged access, authentication methods, and appropriate user controls.
- Assess and monitor third-party security risk by reviewing vendors and partners to support informed decision-making and reduce external exposure.
- Build and develop a high-performing security team while managing budgets, external providers, training efforts, and awareness initiatives across the organization.
- 12+ years of experience spanning information technology and cybersecurity, including progressive responsibility in enterprise environments.
- Minimum of 5 years leadership experience overseeing security teams, programs, or large-scale security initiatives.
- Demonstrated expertise in governance, risk management, compliance, and security operations within complex organizations.
- Hands-on knowledge of security frameworks and regulatory expectations such as ISO 27001, NIST, PCI, or comparable standards.
- Experience developing and implementing formal security policies, standards, and operating procedures.
- Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure, cloud environments, network security, access controls, and modern defensive technologies.
- Ability to present security risks, priorities, and recommendations clearly to executive stakeholders and other senior decision-makers.
- Relevant certifications in cybersecurity, governance, or risk management would be considered an asset.
