Owner Operator Off Road Mechanic (Suncor Top Shop)

Position Scope:
NACG is seeking an experienced Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic (Off Road) with Service Truck (Partial Direct Service Provider) to join our dynamic and industry leading organization. Upon hire, you will be eligible for a $2500 Attraction Bonus* and our long-term service awards which are made in yearly payments. The sooner you start the more you earn!!

Looking to build your career? You can earn up to $56.98 per hour (includes base rate, pension, training, vacation and general holiday pay, tool allowance and health and wellness – benefits, dental and disability). Successful candidates will also receive $2,000/month Living Out Allowance and $225.00 per year of Boot Allowance. Truck rate is $45.00 (flat rate) or Full Direct Service Provider flat rate is $125

Site: Suncor Top Shop (will be working in shop & yard)

Schedule: 14x14 or 7x7

Overtime: Provided after 8 hours in a day or 44 hours in a week

Accommodations: $2000/month Living out Allowance*

Transportation: Transportation to and from site provided.

The successful candidate will be required to join the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 955.

NACG also offers an Employee Referral Program*, an employee may be eligible to receive a referral bonus if he / she refers an eligible candidate for a posted Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) position in the Acheson Shop and/or Fort McMurray area with NACG. Each successful referral will result in a payment of $2,500.

  • Note the above is only applicable to HET's hired as a Partial Direct Service Provider, not if you are hired as a Direct Service Provider.*
Responsibilities:
Complete repairs on CAT/Komatsu/Hitachi equipment of all sizes.
Work closely with peers in both maintenance and operations.
Preventative Maintenance and servicing of all equipment.
Evaluate equipment performance and inspect to detect faults and malfunctions.
Trouble shooting systems – example: hydraulic, electrical & mechanical of all equipment and determine faults and extent of repair.
Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturer specifications.
Mobilization of equipment for maintenance and repair.
Develop work scopes and schedules for equipment to be repaired.
Order required repair parts, complete reports and fill out work orders.
Teach and evaluate apprentices and mentor Mechanics.
Follow NACG codes of practice and Safe Operating Procedures.
Other maintenance duties as assigned.

Specific Requirements:
Minimum 2 years’ experience post Journeyman (Journeyperson) certification on large Haul Trucks/Dozers/Graders and Excavators.
Possess excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills and abilities.
Capable of working with minimal supervision.
Exhibit professional work behaviors.
Committed to continuous learning.
Basic knowledge of computer applications.
Demonstrate leadership skills in daily work interaction

Qualifications:
A valid Alberta Journeyman (Journeyperson) Equipment Technician (Off Road) Certificate or an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman (Journeyperson) Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic/Technician (Off Road).
Experience with Cat SIS is an asset.
Previous experience on a Safety Sensitive work site an asset

Truck Requirements:
Current CVIP and Picker Inspection.
Oxygen/acetylene cabinets that meet OH&S requirements.
Full complement of tools for repairing Off Road Equipment.
$5 million liability insurance

Summary:
All successful candidates must:
Be proficient in English, both verbally and written
Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License
Have experience as requested as mentioned above
Subject to Random Testing at: Suncor, Suncor Fort Hills and Kearl sites

Fully immunized individuals must provide government issued proof of vaccination to be exempt from site testing requirements
Individuals not fully immunized may be subject to site COVID-19 testing requirements and associated costs

Undergo and successfully pass the following testing:
Breath Alcohol Test
Urine Drug Test
Fitness-to-Work Assessment
Audiometric Testing
Vision Screening
Criminal Record Check

Shift, site, and start times are subject to change.

All successful candidates MUST provide the following items prior to confirmation of their start date:

CSO or BSO Certification
Copy of Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
Copy of recent Driver’s Abstract
VOID cheque/direct deposit form
Silica Awareness
Hydrogen Sulphide Awareness
OHS Alberta Legislation Awareness

Once dispatched the following processes will occur:
Will receive a call from NACG to set up all required pre-employment testing
An email will be sent with all required New Hire Paperwork to be filled out
After all results are received by NACG candidates will be contacted by Site Admin to schedule orientation and confirm your start date and other site specific details.
