About the Role
Climate Works Heating, Cooling & Plumbing is looking for an experienced, hands-on Service Manager to lead and grow our Toronto service operations.
This is a key leadership role for someone who understands the HVAC and plumbing service industry and is equally comfortable pricing jobs, managing field crews, resolving customer issues, and building strong relationships with key accounts. We're looking for someone who can take ownership of day-to-day service operations while helping us grow the Toronto market.
Key Responsibilities
Service Operations & Crew Management
- Manage day-to-day operations of the Toronto Service Department
- Lead, schedule, and support HVAC and plumbing service technicians
- Ensure technicians are properly prepared and equipped for scheduled work
- Organize technician schedules and dispatching to maximize efficiency, minimizing unnecessary travel time across the Toronto market
- Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure materials, equipment, and other resources are lined up and ready for scheduled work
- Monitor job progress, productivity, workmanship, callbacks, and customer satisfaction
- Provide technical and operational support to field staff as needed
- Ensure work orders are properly completed, documented, and ready for timely invoicing
- Maintain accountability for service standards, safety, productivity, and profitability
Health & Safety
- Ensure all field work is performed safely and in accordance with company policies, procedures, and applicable health and safety regulations
- Promote a strong safety culture among technicians, reinforcing proper training, equipment use, and job site practices
- Conduct or oversee safety checks and job site reviews as needed
- Address safety concerns or incidents promptly and ensure proper documentation and follow-up
Estimating & Job Pricing
- Review service opportunities and determine appropriate scope of work
- Price service jobs and prepare customer estimates and proposals
- Perform site visits as needed to assess work and develop accurate pricing
- Review labour, material, equipment, subcontractor, and other job costs
- Ensure jobs are priced to meet company margin and profitability targets
- Identify additional work and service opportunities while maintaining a customer-first approach
- Follow up on outstanding estimates and help convert opportunities into booked work
Key Account Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for designated key commercial and service accounts
- Build strong relationships with customers, property managers, contractors, and other partners
- Conduct regular follow-up with key accounts to ensure service expectations are met
- Address escalated customer concerns quickly and professionally
- Identify opportunities to expand existing accounts and secure repeat business
- Support the development of new service relationships across the Toronto market
- Help grow and retain preventative maintenance agreements and recurring service contracts
Financial & Performance Management
- Monitor Service Department revenue, gross margin, labour utilization, and job profitability
- Review job costing and identify areas for improved performance
- Ensure completed work is properly documented and invoiced promptly
- Work closely with Accounting to resolve billing, purchase order, and collection issues
- Help establish and achieve annual revenue and profitability targets for the Toronto Service Department
Leadership & Growth
- Recruit, train, coach, and develop service technicians as the department grows
- Set clear expectations and hold the team accountable for performance
- Help develop and implement consistent service processes and procedures
- Collaborate with the Ottawa operation and Climate Works leadership team
- Play an active role in building and growing the Climate Works presence in the GTA
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of HVAC and/or plumbing service industry experience
- Previous experience as a Service Manager, Service Supervisor, Estimator, Operations Manager, or in a similar leadership role
- Strong understanding of HVAC and/or plumbing systems and service operations
- Demonstrated ability to estimate and price service work
- Experience managing and supporting field technicians
- Solid grasp of labour, materials, job costing, gross margin, and profitability
- Excellent customer service and key account relationship management skills
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, including experience with scheduling and dispatch coordination
- Working knowledge of health and safety practices and regulations in a field service environment
- Comfortable making decisions and taking ownership of department performance
- Strong computer skills and experience with field service management software
- Experience with ServiceTitan an asset
- Valid Ontario driver's licence
The Right Person
We're looking for someone who doesn't want to manage the department from behind a desk. You'll be expected to know what's happening in the field, support your technicians, visit job sites, price work, meet with customers, follow up on opportunities, and take ownership of the Service Department's overall performance.
