The Global Financial Institutions Team is comprised of eleven investment professionals whose work is focused on investments in Financial Institutions, Real Estate backed and Securitization transactions in the US, Canada, Europe and Australia. The team has credit coverage for approximately C$21 billion in public and private bonds across the Manulife complex. As part of the Global Financial Institutions Team, the Investment Analyst will be based in Toronto, and will assist a Managing Director, with coverage of a global bank portfolio.
Support senior team members in the management of the credit quality of existing portfolio.
Maintenance of financial spreadsheets for entire portfolio and prepare quarterly or semi-annual updates for all issuers.
Monitoring assigned credits on a regular basis, following news and announcements of major credit events, and providing updates to senior team members.
Assist in the preparation of annual credit reviews and investment proposals.
Follow legislation changes, both nationally and globally.
Work on ad hoc value-added projects.
Work with peers in Toronto and Boston to ensure consistency of rating rationales, financial data and spreadsheets.
An MBA, B. Comm or BA Economics. CFA candidate and/or an accounting designation is desirable.
2-3 years of experience working with financial statements at a rating agency, bank, pension, other financial institution, or accounting firm strongly preferred.
Strong quantitative and analytical skills along with an ability to think strategically.
A solid understanding of financial and accounting principles.
Attention to detail and intellectual curiosity are critical success factors in this position.
Solid knowledge of PC applications (e.g. Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and ability to retrieve credit information from online sources.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential.
Ability to process large amounts of information simultaneously and respond to enquiries and opportunities in a timely manner.
Comfortable in a dynamic environment that requires multi-tasking.
A self-starter that enjoys working collaboratively in a cross-border team environment.
An interest in the banking industry.
Knowledge of capital markets desirable.
