Customer & Energy Data Scientist

Annual salary: $ 109,700.00 - 138,700.00
What you'll do
This role is a part of the Customer & Energy Analytics team, leading the efforts to maintain a high level of data quality while
enabling new data elements to be ingested. In essence, this role is the team’s data steward, acting as the principal bridge
between the Technology team and business users. The role will also offer exciting opportunities to create data pipelines for
new strategic projects in areas such as grid modernization and product design. The successful applicant will bring a strong
combination of experience in organizing data, detail-orientation, communication skills, and enthusiasm.
The primary responsibilities include:
Data management and integration
- Manage the day-to-day operation of the foundational data system (known as EAS) as well as self-serve tools developed
by CEA.
- Ensure internal data systems are reliably and accurately ingesting data from data sources, such as meters, to enable the
business to conduct required analysis.
- Manage processes to ingest externally sourced data (e.g., Statistics Canada, Environment Canada, etc.).
- Provide subject matter expertise on creating new data views from BC Hydro systems to enhance existing analytics.
Principal liaison between the business and Technology team
- Establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with Technology team counterparts, vendors, and business
users.
- Accurately capture and convey business requirements to Technology and vendors managing the data platforms.
Project management
- Manage CEA portion of large, cross-functional Technology projects.
- Lead or develop new projects undertaken by the team, such as creating new local grid capacity models.
- Provide data enablement support to senior data scientists developing load profile models, energy forecasts, and customer
segmentation tools.
Team leadership
- Depending on the candidate, there will be an opportunity to include a people management component to the role.
What you bring
- Degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, engineering or other quantitative discipline from a recognized post-
secondary institution.
- 6-8 years’ experience using advanced statistical techniques and creating data models / forecasts analysis, in analytical
roles related to load research or utilities.
- Well-developed knowledge of file and database structure, information system design, and platforms (e.g., Microsoft
Fabric). Experience using AI tools to build models or processes is an asset.
