The Loader Operator is primarily responsible for safely and efficiently operating and maintaining CAT 980 front-end loaders and loading various types of materials into trucks. The operator must also maintain the stock piles and minor road repairs.
Summary
Concrete Plants and knowledge of Concrete Plant processes, materials and equipment is considered an asset. Minimum three years of experience operating Cat 980 loaders or equivalent in size. Must be comfortable completing groundwork as required. Experience operating other equipment is considered an asset. Must have a class 5 driver's license.
Candidates must meet relevant safety requirements and undergo/attend Pre-Employment Physical Health Assessment, Drug & Alcohol Testing, Audio Testing, Orientation, and relevant Safety Training as scheduled by the Employer prior to commencing Employment (Candidate will be paid time for said activities if hiring process is completed). Position full-time seasonal work.
Duties/Tasks
- Comply with Company and legislated health and safety standards, policies, codes, and environmental regulations.
- Responsible for understanding, supporting, and promoting all aspects of Standard General’s safety programs and initiatives for their area of responsibility, including Goal Zero.
- Perform and document daily equipment Inspection checks and deficiency reports.
- Communicate with truck drivers, scale operator and other contractors and employees on site to maintain a safe and efficient work site.
- Report any problems or hazards to site Supervisor or Superintendent.
- Maintain accessibility, safety and grade of roadways and truck routes through yard.
- Enforce (and obey) speed limits on site(s).
- Assist in training less experienced employees on the proper operations and servicing of equipment.
- Communicate professionally and diplomatically with colleagues, supervisors, customers, and guests at all times.
- Perform general labouring and plant maintenance duties when not occupied with loader tasks.
- Ensure tools used for daily tasks remain clean and organized within their designated locations.
- Additional duties/tasks as required.
Knowledge/Skills
- Must be able to operate mobile heavy equipment safely and efficiently under a variety of working conditions.
- Must be able to learn and utilize Loadrite technologies for loading haul trucks.
- Must have knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations.
- Must be able to work independently and as a team in a busy fast-paced environment..
Experience/Education
- High school diploma (or equivalent) is required.
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License (or equivalent) is required.
- Experience in asphalt plant production and/or aggregate operations is preferred.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to work irregular hours, including overtime, nights, and weekends as required.
- Travel between local job sites, as required.
- Work outdoors, which could include inclement weather; fluctuations in temperatures and humidity; and varying exposures to noise, dust, grease, fumes, and flammable substances.
- Extended periods of sitting may be required.
- Must be willing and able to work at heights of up to 80 feet.
- Must be physically fit, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Vision requirements (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and focus adjustment abilities.
- Must wear appropriate PPE as directed by company policy and OH&S regulations.
- Must be able to meet all pre-employment safety requirements, including Occupational Health Assessment and Drug & Alcohol testing.
- Must be able to meet the requirements for Mask/Respirator Fit Testing.
- Must maintain active membership with the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE), Local 955.
