Through market engagement, training, advocacy and trusted building certification programs like LEED and the Zero Carbon Building Standards, CAGBC provides the tools Canada’s building sector needs to capitalize on the value of green buildings.
Our members are critical to transforming Canada’s buildings, reducing emissions, and ultimately, contributing to Canada’s climate targets. The CAGBC Market Engagement Team plays a key role in supporting this journey and connecting Canada’s building and real estate sectors. We mobilize members and other stakeholders by creating opportunities for them to come together, share knowledge, learn and contribute to the future of green building.
JOB PROFILE
As a key member of the Market Engagement Team, the Business Development Specialist contributes to the growth of CAGBC’s programs and our green building community in the BC market. This diverse and dynamic role engages with members, new business prospects and industry stakeholders to expand the uptake of CAGBC certification programs and standards, membership offerings and other CAGBC products and services in the province.
We are seeking an energetic, customer-focused and multi-faceted individual who can leverage their existing skills and green building knowledge to contribute to the growth of CAGBC in BC while supporting the delivery of nation-wide initiatives in the province. This role works collaboratively with other Market Engagement team members and interacts with all departments and levels of the organization across Canada.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Market Development Advisor (“Supervisor”), the Market Development Specialist plays a vital role in carrying out strategies and initiatives to support CAGBC membership and sponsorship growth, create positive member and stakeholder engagements and cultivate industry partnerships and relationships. This role is key to driving member and sponsor value, elevating value-added member offerings, and creating impact with CAGBC’s core audiences. The Market Development Specialist will work with the broader Market Engagement team and across organizational units and will work directly and collaboratively with multiple internal stakeholders as well as relevant external stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Membership and Sponsorship
· With Supervisor, assist in developing CAGBC’s national membership and sponsorship strategies including campaigns and tactical plans for member and sponsor recruitment and retention in all target sectors.
· Support and lead, as appropriate, the execution of member and sponsorship growth and retention activities including managing key accounts, new member onboarding, supporting the member engagement cycle and maintaining positive on-going relationships with members and sponsors.
· With Supervisor, maintain and execute on a pipeline of opportunities to grow membership and sponsorship revenues including identifying prospects and closing leads, developing proposals, preparing and delivering communications, and reporting on member and sponsor activity.
· Contribute to market analysis and assist Market Engagement team members in the evaluation, development and delivery of new product, member, sponsor and client service offerings and deliverables.
· Serve as a main point of contact for membership- and sponsorship-related issues and their resolution as required.
· Represent CAGBC and serve as an ambassador at meetings, conferences, on committees and at industry events to raise awareness and develop the market for all business lines.
· Oversee the delivery of excellent customer service to identify and resolve concerns and build member and sponsor loyalty.
Stakeholder Engagement and Facilitation
· With the Supervisor, oversee and facilitate the execution of CAGBC’s national engagement efforts (Accelerators, advisory groups, task forces etc.) in line with CAGBC’s strategic objectives and annual workplans.
· With the Supervisor, the Market Engagement team and all CAGBC business lines, identify new value-added engagement opportunities and assist in defining and delivering programs that support CAGBC’s strategic priorities and the needs of members and stakeholders.
· Continuously assess industry, market, and competitive landscapes to contribute to innovative stakeholder experiences, programs, and best practices.
· Identify, develop, and maintain relationships and ongoing collaboration with industry stakeholders, delivery partners and key industry groups to effectively carry out Market Engagement initiatives.
· With the Supervisor, monitor key metrics to ensure the successful deployment and adoption of engagement programs and actively monitor budgets to ensure that deliverables and commitments are met.
· Act as an advocate for CAGBC programs and services and engage with stakeholders to keep them informed of CAGBC’s activities, initiatives, and opportunities to participate.
Team Development
· Assist Supervisor in the day-to-day supervision of and act as a mentor and resource for the Market Development Representative and other junior team members.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
· Strong business acumen with a demonstrated background in business development, relationship building and stakeholder management.
· Polished verbal, interpersonal, presentation and written communication skills.
· Good facilitation skills and the capability to lead groups.
· Excellent project management and organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task and manage numerous projects concurrently.
· Strong understanding of green building, the building and real estate sectors and demonstrated expertise to support the market. Familiarity with LEED, zero carbon buildings and other programs is advantageous.
· English (verbal and written, including presentation skills) required.
· Experience in commercial building sector preferred (e.g. Real Estate, Construction/project Management, Manufacturing, Engineering, Architecture)
· Strong computer skills including Office 365, SharePoint, Teams and database applications. Prior experience with CRM systems is beneficial.

EDUCATION
- Undergraduate degree or Post-secondary Diploma (3 year) in a related field.
- Minimum 3-4 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- LEED Green Associate or LEED AP credential preferred.
