Our client, a full-service, legacy, multi-site, automotive components design/manufacturer located in Oshawa, ON is seeking a seasoned Engineering Electrical Controls Specilalist to its Oshawa, ON team.
The Job:
- Support daily manufacturing operations by troubleshooting and resolving electrical and automation issues on production equipment.
- Design, modify, and improve electrical control systems for automated manufacturing lines, robotics, conveyors, weld cells, and assembly equipment.
- Program, troubleshoot, and maintain PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, and industrial networks.
- Support robotic systems and automated equipment used in automotive production processes.
- Develop and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and technical documentation.
- Lead root cause analysis activities for equipment failures, recurring downtime, and quality concerns.
- Work collaboratively with unionized skilled trades and maintenance teams to implement corrective actions and equipment improvements.
- Ensure compliance with all plant safety procedures, electrical codes, lockout/tagout requirements, and automotive industry standards.
- Participate in preventive and predictive maintenance initiatives to improve equipment reliability and uptime.
- Support launch activities for new equipment, tooling, model changes, and production line upgrades.
- Assist with capital projects including equipment specification, installation, commissioning, and validation.
- Monitor equipment performance metrics and recommend continuous improvement opportunities related to safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.

- Create detailed schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts using AutoCAD Electrical
- Ensure designs meet applicable electrical and safety standards (CSA, UL, NFPA 79, ISO 1210
- Design physical layout drawings for enclosures, subpanels, and components.
- Research, select, and specify appropriate components (breakers, contactors, VFDs, PLCs, HMIs, power supplies) based on electrical load, functionality, and environmental requirements.
Requirements:
- The ideal candidate brings strong experience in industrial automation, including Robotic controls, control panel design, wiring practices, and electrical safety compliance
- Experience working on complex, multi-disciplinary automation systems is essential
- This is a technically demanding, hands-on role suited to someone who takes full ownership of their work and who thrives utilizing complex systems
- Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail & troubleshooting abilities
- 3–7 years’ experience in automotive or high-volume manufacturing environments
- Proficiency in PLC programming and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, Siemens).
- Experience with robotics, automated assembly equipment, and industrial communication networks
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, and technical drawings
- Knowledge of CSA, ESA, NFPA, and industrial electrical safety standards
- Experience working within a unionized manufacturing environment
- Strong communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment
