Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Produce Clerk to join our retail team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining the freshness and presentation of produce, providing excellent customer service, and ensuring the cleanliness and organization of the produce department. This role offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail and strong communication skills are essential. Previous experience in retail sales or merchandising is a plus, and bilingual abilities are welcomed to better serve our diverse customer base.
Duties
- Stock, organize, and display fresh produce items according to company standards
- Assist customers with selections, answer questions, and provide product information
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the produce area, including cleaning displays and equipment
- Operate cash registers for customer transactions efficiently and accurately
- Restock shelves and ensure proper product rotation to minimize waste
- Use forklifts or other equipment as needed for inventory movement (training provided)
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate shortages or issues to management
- Perform routine maintenance on produce displays and equipment to ensure optimal operation
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a safe shopping environment for customers and staff
Skills
- Strong customer service and communication skills to engage with shoppers effectively
- Retail sales experience preferred, with knowledge of merchandising techniques
- Ability to operate forklifts or other warehouse equipment (training available)
- Bilingual abilities are a plus for serving a diverse community
- Excellent organizational skills for managing stock and display layouts
- Basic cleaning and maintenance skills to uphold hygiene standards in the department
- Cashiering experience is beneficial for handling transactions smoothly
- Good communication skills to coordinate with team members and management
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
