Overview
Green PI Inc. is seeking a Powertrain Engine OBD Calibration Engineer for its client in Windsor, Ontario. The role will support the development and implementation of engine diagnostic calibration solutions, OBD verification testing, and emissions-compliance activities for gasoline-powered propulsion systems. The successful candidate will work with calibration and data-acquisition tools to develop, validate, and report on diagnostic strategies and thresholds in support of robust onboard diagnostic system performance.
Contract Term: This is a long-term contract position.
**Work Location: On-site in Windsor, ON. Occasional travel within North America, including potential travel to the United States, may be required for hot- and altitude-environment system validation and verification. Travel is expected approximately once or twice per year, totaling approximately 2-4 weeks annually. Strong candidates who are unable to cross the Canada-U.S. border may still be considered.**
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement best-practice calibration solutions for powertrain engine onboard diagnostic (OBD) systems.
- Perform diagnostic verification and validation testing for gasoline engine systems.
- Manage technical aspects of OBD diagnostic calibrations to support applicable CARB and emissions-compliance requirements.
- Identify diagnostic system requirements during system hardware design to support a robust OBD strategy.
- Use standard instrumentation and calibration toolsets for data acquisition, storage, analysis, and diagnostic development.
- Calibrate diagnostic thresholds to meet applicable OBD and CARB regulatory requirements.
- Analyze engine and diagnostic data to identify issues, validate calibration performance, and support technical problem solving.
- Support gasoline propulsion system and engine diagnostics activities, with primary emphasis on internal-combustion-engine applications.
- Use INCA, MATLAB, and Simulink/Stateflow in support of calibration, analysis, controls, and diagnostic development activities.
- Support engine testing and system validation/verification activities, including hot- and altitude-environment testing as required.
- Prepare regular technical summaries, detailed reports, and timing projections for assigned calibration and validation activities.
- Coordinate technical activities with engineering teams and project stakeholders to bring assigned work to successful completion.
- Operate under the general direction of the engineering supervisor and department manager.
Qualifications
The potential candidate must possess the following:
- Approximately 1-3+ years of automotive OBD, engine calibration, powertrain controls, or closely related experience.
- Hands-on experience with gasoline engine diagnostics and internal-combustion propulsion systems.
- Strong working proficiency with INCA, MATLAB, and Simulink/Stateflow.
- Demonstrated understanding of onboard diagnostics (OBD), diagnostic calibration, and engine control systems.
- Understanding of gasoline propulsion system hardware and function.
- Experience supporting diagnostic verification testing, calibration development, and data analysis.
- Knowledge of CARB and/or automotive emissions-compliance requirements as they relate to OBD calibration.
- Ability to use standard instrumentation and calibration toolsets for data acquisition, storage, and analysis.
- Ability to prepare clear technical summaries, detailed reports, and timing projections for assigned work.
- Ability to work effectively in an on-site, fast-paced automotive engineering environment.
In addition to the requirements above, the following are considered assets:
- Hands-on ECU/OBD calibration and troubleshooting experience.
- Experience with engine testing, diagnostic validation, or hot- and altitude-environment vehicle/system testing.
- Additional exposure to CANape or related automotive calibration and measurement tools.
