Chemical Operator
The Role:
We are looking for our next Chemical Operator to join our Utilities Team. Under the direction of the Utilities Supervisor, this position is responsible for assisting the 3rd Class Power Engineers as well as the Chemical Operators.
This position is located in Portage la Prairie, MB
What You’ll Do:

Complies with all HSE policies and procedures.

Reporting accidents, incidents, near miss, unsafe conditions, safety violations, or other concerns.

Start up, shut down, operate, troubleshoot and clean all chemical related equipment within the chemical building and wastewater area.

Receives chemicals in tanks in line with all safety and quality requirements. · Manages and complete all Safety inspections as required (e.g., Inspection of hoses, fire extinguishers, safety showers etc.)

Manage Transportation and delivery of chemicals within the plant.

Ensure optimal availability of chemicals for wastewater neutralization and operation of the wastewater plant as required.

Monitors and controls usage of various process chemicals (e.g., Hydrochloric Acid, Caustic, Formic Acid, Citric Acid, Hydrogen Peroxide, Peracetic Acid, CIP Additive and any other chemical as required) and understands chemical usage rates and requirements for safe handling and storage / use.

Perform all chemical sampling, chemical analysis and ensure good documentation as required

Manage and complete all related SAP entries, documentation on time & in full.

Maintains a clean work environment and reports any deviation or issues immediately.
What You’ll Need:
Education: Highschool Diploma or Equivalent
Experience:
Minimum 2-3 years operational working and handling experience with chemicals.
Forklift Operations certification
Knowledge of workplace hazardous materials information system (WHMIS)
Basic computer skills
Knowledge of SAP is a Plus
General Knowledge and some experience working with HMI will be an advantage.
General operating knowledge of Pumps, valves etc. will be an advantage.
Specific requirements:
Able to repeatedly lift weights up to 55 lbs. and can ascend and descend stairs up to 4 stories. Ability to walk, sit and stand for extended periods of time.
Able to work in hot and humid environments in the summer, cold in the winter, and works outside in all seasons safely– adhering to HSE and PPE requirements / procedures and policy.
