Job Summary
The School Crossing Guard is responsible for ensuring the safety of students and pedestrians as they cross streets near school zones. This role involves supervising crosswalks during designated times to promote safe passage and prevent accidents. The position requires a vigilant presence, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to community safety. The crossing guard will work during school hours, during morning and afternoon peak times, to support a secure environment for children and families.
Duties
- Safely assist students and pedestrians in crossing streets at designated crosswalks.
- Monitor traffic flow and communicate with drivers to ensure safe crossing conditions.
- Enforce traffic safety rules in collaboration with local authorities when necessary.
- Maintain a visible presence at assigned crossing locations during scheduled hours.
- Use clear communication skills to direct pedestrians and interact with school staff, parents, and children.
- Report any safety hazards or incidents to appropriate authorities promptly.
- Ensure that the crosswalk area remains clean, organized, and free of obstructions.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to minimize risks for pedestrians and motorists.
Experience
- Prior experience in a supervisory or safety-related role is preferred but not required; training will be provided.
- Strong communication skills are essential for effectively interacting with children, parents, drivers, and school personnel.
- Ability to remain alert, attentive, and professional in all weather conditions.
- Demonstrated responsibility and reliability in previous roles involving public interaction or safety oversight.
