Directional Drill Operator - Shallow Utilities
DGC Contracting Inc. is a Spruce Grove, AB based utility construction company specializing in directional drilling, hydrovac and civil construction. We are looking to recruit candidates for several job positions available for telecommunication projects throughout Alberta. Projects are underway and permanent positions are available for the right candidates.
We are looking for people who can work safely and efficiently to install telecommunication infrastructure on both public and private property according to company and client specifications. Positions available include:
· HDD Operator/ Locator
A minimum of 1-year previous experience installing shallow utilities is a requirement for all operating positions. Experience operating and maintaining Ditch Witch Equipment and Subsite or Digitrack is required. Candidates should be able to provide own transportation to and from DGC Contracting’s shop and/or jobsite locations and must be able to work 8-12 hours a day, 5-6 days a week.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safe operation of excavating equipment and other tools required for installation and backfill of shallow utilities.
- Use of both hand tools and power tools such as tampers, saws, shovels, rakes, tampers, etc., to assist in directional drilling and cable plowing installations.
- Participate in daily safety meetings, complete FLHA’s
- Assist in identifying and correcting worksite hazards.
- Read locates for water, gas, and other underground services.
- Work to ensure safe equipment operating guidelines are met.
- Wear all Personal Protective Equipment as required by client, legislation or company policy.
Qualifications:
- Physically fit and able to bend, kneel, climb, and lift (up to 50 lbs).
- At least 1 year experience operating equipment in urban areas around shallow utilities, traffic and pedestrians for all operating positions.
- Ability to perform preventative maintenance according to manufacturer specifications.
- Firm understanding of underground utility locates.
- Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Must have a strong work ethic.
Position Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license minimum Class 5, (preference for class 1 or 3) clean abstract, and own vehicle.
- CSTS training certification
- Ground Disturbance Training (LVL2)
