The Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences & School of Interdisciplinary Studies invites applications for the following anticipated course offering in the Winter semester of the 2019-20 academic year.

VISA 2001WI: Art & Globalization 1250-1800
(Winter Semester, January 6, 2020 – April 3, 2020; Mondays; 3:10pm - 6:10pm)

From the end of the medieval period to the Enlightenment, the global movement of people, things, technology, money, and ideology profoundly shaped how the world was perceived and represented. This course addresses exploration and networks of communication and trade between 1250 and 1800to examine the emergence of world systems that connected and transformed artistic production. Focusing on regions of exchange and transmission (e.g. the Silk Road, the Islamic world, the Atlantic world), students study art, artifacts, monuments and primary documents through the lens of contemporary theories of globalization, colonialism, cultural hybridity, and recent art historical methodologies.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching and teaching-related responsibilities may include but are not limited to: course outline development, studio preparation and delivery inclusive of lectures, critiques, grading, mid-term evaluations and final evaluations/reviews, participation in Faculty and program meetings; including responsibility for health & safety and meeting academic and curricular requirements and deadlines.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful applicant should have a PhD or Master’s in relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional/practical experience with a high level of expertise in the relevant subject, and outstanding communication skills. Postsecondary teaching experience is an asset. Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity, and proven ability to work effectively and collegially with a diverse population.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Sessional compensation includes a per-course pay scale with salary level of $6,316.00 (effective January 1, 2020) plus 7% in lieu of benefits and vacation pay per the provisions of the Employment Standards Act. These positions are subject to budgetary approval and satisfactory enrolment levels.
